Same same but different this time around. This is perhaps one of the most difficult post for me to write. Why? Well, I’ve experienced a myriad of activities over the past month or so that has left me a tad overwhelmed. I suspect primarily that it has brought out the ‘little boy’ within me. I mean how can a ‘little boy’ contain his excitement when he had the opportunity to go on-board an actual warship and was taken on a Fast Craft Utility (FCU) ride during the annual ‘[email protected]’ event. The … [Read more...]
NDP 2014 – Power, Precision and Passion
I’ve had several juvenile misconceptions cleared over the weekend. Every year, there would be the awe-inspiring, thundering aerial flypast by the fighter jets during Singapore’s National Day Parade. I've always assumed that:Photo Credit1) Due to the small air space that Singapore has, surely our government would have asked our friendly neighbours in Malaysia and Indonesia for some leeway into THEIR airspace so that OUR FIGHTER JETS can execute their maneuvers well. 2) These top … [Read more...]
The Big Hearted Family Awards – Because it takes a village
2014 is the International Year of the Family (IYF) and there are many meaningful initiatives mounted to celebrate kinships and close ties. In the midst of our hectic lives, we have all met people (friends, teachers, relatives colleagues, volunteers even strangers) who made our day a little brighter and extended kindness to make challenges of lives easier. Yet not many of us conscientiously make efforts to make our appreciation known. Now there is a chance for us to do so! The Ministry of Social … [Read more...]
Of Officers, Ladies and Gentlemen: Our [email protected] Experience
We’ve had two interesting experiences in the past month as far as the military is concerned. A rare chance to go on board the RSS Persistence!Less than a week ago, we were in New York touring the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum, which is housed on board the retired legendary aircraft carrier - the USS Intrepid. On exhibit are war and space machines that have made history (these were the real thing, retired but definitely not replicas). They included, among many, the Space … [Read more...]
Mothers’ Day 2014: A few of my Favourite Things
Mothers' Day this year coincided with my birthday, making it doubly special. My Mom told me I was born on Mothers' Day so you can imagine my joy when I finally qualify to celebrate this day after Dana came along. For my birthday, the husband sent a rose floral bouquet and a dear friend surprised me with a cheery yellow Gerbera table arrangement which instantly warmed my heart and lit up our home.My Fav Birthday Surprises...After church, we joined the extended family for lunch at the Peony … [Read more...]
Giving kids a sense of the Resurrection…
Easter falls on 20th April this year. Unlike Christmas, where the world celebrates Jesus' birth lavishly - decking our homes and malls with Christmas trees and tinsels, playing Christmas music for a month, feasting on log cakes and giving outlandish gifts to everyone. But Easter? Easter has always been a nebulous festival associated with Easter bunnies, Easter egg hunts and Easter Egg crafts. We may find a handful of books in the bookstores and a few songs … [Read more...]
In the mood for love…
It's Valentine's Day this weekend. Even if you, like us, have no plans for a lavish celebration, here's a fun 'Love Box' which you can easily assemble with 10 minutes for a good friend, colleague or spouse. Simply grab hold of a recycled shoe/gift box, and in it, place the following items:In the mood for love...1. A Tabletop Photo Frame (from Ikea) - for displaying your fav photo taken together2. A Booklet of Love Coupons (home printed) - to show your affection … [Read more...]
Glimpses of CNY 2014
I posted on Facebook that I'm a 'old-body' at heart. Of all the festivals, I look forward to Chinese New Year the most. The significance of spring cleaning, away with the old and welcoming of the new; the acts of giving home a new coat of paint, new light bulbs, new curtains, bedsheets and for family members, new sets of towels, clothes and shoes. These kept me busy in anticipation for weeks. But nothing rejuvenates me more than the coming together of loved ones - aunties, uncles, cousins, … [Read more...]

Dana’s 1st Music Recital
Friday the 13th, 2013 will go down in history with a special significance for my family. It was Dana's 1st music recital after taking piano lessons for a year. She was invited to play at the Christmas Concert at The Arts House. Daddy couldn't be more pleased as he believes that music is to be performed and enjoyed by an audience. We thank God that Dana was given such an exposure and it was made more memorable that Daddy accompanied Dana on two duets! A befitting venue for a … [Read more...]
