The team behind Elly Children Outfitters put up a magnificent vintage style Lantern Carnival for their loyal customers yesterday. All the families had a jolly good time the moment they entered the fairground.
With delectable ice-cream cones and fresh homemade popcorn in hand, the little guests wandered around freely, checking out the range of carnival games available like The Ring Toss, Veggie Wash, Fish the Letters, Soccer and Bowling.
What’s so awesome about this carnival is that everything from decor to goody bags, invitation cards, carnival coupons to the game stations were all lovingly DIY-ed by Carol, Audrey, their hubbies and friends. You can read about the preparation from their blog. No amount of effort was spared to ensure every guest would have a wonderful time. This is the level of dedication and quality reflected in Elly’s products as well.
Having won a ticket to attend the carnival, we invited Valerie to come along and what great evening it turned out to be. Upon arrival, the girls picked their choice of tattoo each – Pink Unicorn for Val and a Green Dino for Dana. Quite matching with the colour of their outfits actually!

Next, it’s Games time! The kids learn turn-taking (having to wait for their turns), decision-making (which games to redeem with the 6 coupons they have), perseverance (never-give-up if they don’t succeed the 1st time) and hand-eye coordination skills as they attempt the carnival games. After each game, the children get to pick a small prize in the form of Happy Family/Donkey/Old Maid Game Cards (so nostalgic!), Miniature Erasers, Pencils and even pretty Elly Hair clips generously sponsored by the hosts.

David and I love the carnival’s relaxed, cosy atmosphere; everyone was friendly and in a mood to make merry. The breezy weather was a bonus which enhanced the fun quotient of the evening. Dana and Valerie had taken a fancy with the big wooden swing at the fairground…It became a useful ‘backdrop’ where we captured some of their most spontaneous smiles!
At 7pm, as the sun sets, the little children gathered for a lantern walk. As all manners of lanterns (and shrill midi music) make their appearances, we can’t help but feel proud that we can passing on a part of our Chinese culture and heritage to the younger generation as we perpetuate this practice of a lantern parade (never mind that they may not fully understand its significance as yet)…
After the lantern walk, all the children gathered in the garden for a group photo before calling it a night. It’s quite a feat to get everyone to look in the direction of the photographer but I think this is quite a decent shot 🙂 Look how well-dressed and exuberant the kids were, all decked out in Elly’s shirts and dresses!
The girls had such an enjoyable time that they persuaded us to stay a little longer even after most of the guests have left. Our big thanks to the talented, hardworking Elly team (especially Carol and Audrey) for hosting such a fun-filled, memorable lantern carnival. We look forward to attending more Elly events in future!
