“What?”
As I wrote the date down on my work document, I paused. “1 Dec. 2016” … “What? It’s December already?” I asked my colleague.
It seemed to catch my colleague by surprise too as her brows knitted into a light frown, both of us looking at the date. “Wah, the year has passed so fast!” she muttered, looking equally unconvinced.
Whizzed by:
But it’s true, 11 months of what seemed like ‘new year’ which we celebrated not too long ago, is now into it’s final month. Time has whizzed-by us, again.
What truly matters:
For most of us here in urban Singapore, we are often caught up with the legitimate demands of work, of everyday life…things that seem urgent? Some times, most times, by doing things that are urgent, we miss out on those that are truly important. These things that truly matter for us, such as relationships, are relegated to “when we are free”.
However let’s face it, more often than not, we would substitute that free time with other legitimate activities that fill up our calendar. If we disregard it, that opportunity to reconnect or even to restore that relationship has once again disappeared and for some of us, gone forever.
This festive season, why not invest a fraction of your time to acknowledge that one person who’s most important to you?
#OnePersonOneThing:
As part of their corporate effort to get Singaporeans to focus on relationships, Prudential has set up a special #OnePersonOneThing booth across various parts of Singapore for the public to record a short video to say one thing you’ve always wanted to say to a dear friend, family member or colleague, but never did until you were asked to record it.
As the year comes to an end and before a new one starts, it’s good to reflect upon those who have made a difference in our lives and practise gratitude. Pop down to any of Prudential’s #OnePersonOneThing booth during the dates and times indicated below to record that a special acknowledgement to surprise them with a gesture of love and appreciation.
The one-minute video is recorded in a private booth and will be emailed to you or shared directly to your Facebook page to surprise your recipient(s). Little children should be encouraged to participate in this #OnePersonOneThing video recording activity too! In fact, you’ll be pleased to know you’ll will be treated to a free magnum ice-cream after the recording (*while stocks last!) and if we share our video to Facebook, we’ll receive a $5 ToastBox voucher!
Dates, Time and Locations of the #OnePersonOneThing Booth where you can make your own video dedications:
◦ 3 to 4 Dec 2016: Courts Megastore@Tampines 11am to 8pm
◦ 5 Dec 2016: Prudential Tower 11am to 7pm
◦ 7 to 9 Dec 2016: Ocean Financial Centre 11am to 7pm
We visited the booth at Courts Megastore on the first day and recorded our one-minute videos each. It was initially slightly unnatural, I guess, partly because of our Asian culture where we seldom express our feelings but you know what…after we said it and viewing what others said about our relationships with them, it actually drew us closer together. Yes, it’s warm and fuzzy but it’s also important. Because deep relationships are what truly makes us human and makes our lives worth living.
Let’s not get too busy until we have no time for people and things that matter. Find a quiet moment in this season of merry-making to think about the person who means the most to you. Then make an effort to let them know, either through the #OnePersonOneThing video or through other means.
It’s not too much to ask for a minute or two to recollect, record and reconnect with those who truly matter. Relationships are precious. Invest in them and protect them.
