Santa came early this year! |
Christmas came early in the form of Lollibox’s newest theme – Blow Wind Blow. Having previous great experience with Lollibox, Dana’s playmates (Maegan and Meredith) were delighted when we invited them over for an afternoon of fun Lollibox time!
Hardly can conceal their excitement! |
In this newest offering by Lollibox, kids will be introduced to the concept of ‘Wind’ and engaged in some activities to experiment with the effects of wind. We did two crafts with the items provided:
Create – Blow My Sailboat
Develop your kid’s fine motor skills through the process of painting and creating his/her own sailboat. Kids also get to better understand how sailboats work and how the wind can help propel sailboats!
Discover – I am a Wind Spy
Kids get to decorate their very own windsock and discover how windsocks are able to ‘catch’ the wind! They will also observe the effects of wind and note their observations in the observation card provided!
The treasures that lie within… |
The girls started with the ‘Blow my Sailboat’ craft. Using the paint and brushes provided, the girls painted and decorated their own wooden sailboat. They even gave names to their boats, how fun!
Little Picassos and Monets at work… |
Love the splash of colours! |
As we waited for the paints to dry, the girls worked on decorating their sails (cut out of little postcards).
Pretty flowers for my sailboat… |
The look of concentration… |
Well, after the sailboat was completed, we brought it down to the pool to test-run it. It was able to float but it toppled easily once the wind changes the direction of the sail. On hindsight, we should have secure the sail to the stick with a scotch-tape so it will be more secure.
Attempting to sail a wooden sailboat… |
Her sailboat whom she names after her dog ‘Poppy’… |
For the next activity, we attempted to create a Windsock under the ‘I am a Wind Spy’ activity. There were little stencil templates provided for the kids to paint on the canvas cloth which will make up the ‘body’ of the Windsock…It takes a bit of patience and skill to stencil directly onto the canvas with paint but the girls soon get the hang of it. For kids, messy art is fun art!
Cooperative learning taking place.. |
We did not manage to complete the Windsock in one sitting. We allowed the paint to dry before we stenciled in some words to personalise the Windsock the next day. The great thing about Lollibox is that you can stretch the activities over a few days period to maximise the learning process.
Enjoying her painting session and developing hand-eye coordination skills… |
We brought the Windsock down to the park and Daddy asked Dana to run with it so the ribbons can fly. Well, ran she did!
Dana learnt that wind is moving air and by running, her ribbons get blown in the wind… |
What a beautiful Windsock.. |
Due to the skills required in putting together the Sailboat and the Windsock, I would recommend this Blow, Wind, Blow Lollibox for kids aged 5 to 7. Do set aside ample time to try the activities together as most of them require adult assistance. Lollibox is the pioneer of creativity in a box in Singapore, you can read what others have to say about them on its website here!
