Had a great weekend just past. It was one of the ‘better days’ – it’s been a long while since I was happy with how the weekend turned out and I even went to bed on Sunday night contented instead of shortchanged. No, we didn’t have the chance to sleep in nor did we check out any quaint cafes or embark on any ambitious road trips. No, I didn’t do any shopping (we didn’t even step foot in any shopping malls the entire weekend – incredible!), didn’t catch any movies or even have my usual manicure/pedicures done.
Morning Cycle at The Botanic Garden |
It all started with the spontaneous visit to Gardens By the Bay on Friday night. Both the Husb and I have had a long, long day at work. The natural tendency would be to head home, eat dinner, engage the girl then crash on the bed after a nice hot shower. But no, we picked the Princess from her enrichment class, then whizzed her off to The Gardens to view the lanterns. She was over the moon by this surprise ‘night adventure’ with Daddy & Mommy. Walking in the tranquil Night Garden felt so surreal and mystical…Ironically, our leisurely stroll in the stillness of Nature stripped the weariness of the work week away…
I was grateful that Saturday morn was one where the husb was not required back at work. We miss our spouses when they are away on weekdays but always twice as much on weekends. We shared a simple but tasty fried bee hoon breakfast and brought each other up to speed with what’s happening in our own spheres over a cup of Kopi-see (for him) and Teh-see (for me), never mind it’s in a bustling heartland Cofeeshop. The grade of the coffee (or tea leaves) didn’t matter, the person whom I’m drinking it with does.
I then spent Saturday afternoons completing The Gardens post for the blog while the Husb left for church for his music practice. These days, working on the blog gives me immense satisfaction. It’s my quality ‘Me’ time, one which I treasure…On Saturday evenings, we hopped over as a family to our new home to do some space planning. It helped us visualise our new chapter there…
On Sunday morning, we woke up a tad early for church so we changed into our exercise gear and headed to the nearby Botanic Gardens for a morning jog, cycle and walk. It was good to visit the parks twice in a span of two days. Fresh air does my mental (and physical) health a whole lot of good. In church, my heart melts to see the Husb serving God fervently as a musician on stage and Dana raising her tiny hands as we sang ‘Blessed be your Name’ to the living King. We then proceeded home for R&R. I fell into a deep, long sleep. A good afternoon nap on a Sunday is priceless. I felt my fatigue soothed…
Sunday evening, we met up with some family members for dinner at RWS and checked out the suite at Crockfords Tower which they were putting up at. Dana and I were given the bonus of indulging in a butler-drawn mineral salt flower bath while Daddy caught some F1 action live on TV. Simple pleasures that were too short-lived but nonetheless relaxing and very much appreciated.
So I thank God that the weekend past was one of the ‘better’ ones. There were pockets of time devoted to the important people in my life – God, my husb, our daughter, the extended family and myself. I felt rejuvenated and fueled up with a renewed sense of courage to face another hectic week. It’s only Monday, but I tell myself to hang on…and count down to the next round of ‘better days’.

What a sweet heartfelt sharing. Indeed, what matters is not where or what we do, but who we do it with!
Glad you had such a great weekend!
