An excited Princess at her Mad Science Party! When it comes to planning the party programmes, we have three criteria: they must be educational, fun and engaging. Ever since Dana started attending the weekly Science enrichment in her kindy, she's take a great liking to Science. She devours the Young Scientist Magazines avidly and dabbles in the occasional home experiments as 'Scientist Dana and Singlet Daddy'. When Mad Science Singapore wanted to sponsor Dana with a Mad Science programme, we knew … [Read more...]

Counting down to the official opening of KidZania Singapore!
Ever since we visited BabyBoss in Taiwan 2 years ago, the entire family (yes we parents included) has been anamoured with this concept of 'experiential' learning through the role-play of realistic occupations. So we couldn't be happier when we heard the announcement that KidZania will be opening in Singapore in 2015 at Palawan Beach (right opposite Port of Lost Wonder)! Like KidZania KL which Dana enjoyed tremendously, KidZania Singapore will provide a kid-centric experience to educate and … [Read more...]
GREASE is still THE word for rockin and rollin good times
Couple times for us are important but rare. We’ve never been comfortable leaving the daughter in the care of others for too long a time due to accountability and risk issues. Hence, we have to be very selective in the dates we go on. One of those ‘fail-proof’ couple dates that we will never say no to is that of watching live musicals together. Now on at the MBS Grand Theatre till 18 May!When we heard that GREASE – the musical is making its comeback to Singapore, we were psyched. Having been a … [Read more...]
Dana’s Disney Frozen Party – The Dessert Table
We threw a 'Frozen' theme birthday celebration for Dana, a one last big bash for her before she enters Primary One in 2015. I started planning for it rather late but managed to design the invite on my own and put together a decent programme. This year for a change, Dana was tasked to draft her own guest list. Not surprisingly, she invited her classmates and a few close friends. Her birthday wish to be dressed as Princess Elsa (in 'Frozen') was granted when our dear neighbour turned BFF, Meredith … [Read more...]
Positive Discipline: Is it possible to Discipline with Love?
Several episodes in recent months have raised the alert that our discipline methods might be ineffective. Late last year, a Sunday School teacher remarked that she's 'easily distracted, likes to do her own things' and urged us to spend time interceding for her. Early this year, I received a call from her form teacher informing me that Dana was 'displeased' that she wasn't picked the 'STAR' (model pupil) of the month. We were also told that Dana tends to be 'overly zealous' to share her … [Read more...]
Tulipmania 2014 – The Colours, the Crowd and the Company!
We finally made it! Over the long Good Friday/ Easter weekend, we jiggled everyone’s busy schedules, squeezed a carload of adults with one preschooler and off we went to Holland! Well…sort of. We went to Gardens by the Bay for the much anticipated Tulipmania 2014!Tulipmania - 14 April to 4 May (9am to 9pm)Upon reaching, we were greeted by a car park queue that could be seen from space. Because they were not a dream…
Today, April 22nd, marks the death anniversary of our second son, Joash Sim, who was born straight into Heaven 7 years ago...This is the first time I am honouring him (and his siblings) on this blog...I reckon if I want to keep it real, I have to share this because this IS a big part of my motherhood journey... Background: We had fertility issues, the husband is fine but I had PCOs (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome). In the 5th year of our marriage, with the help of assisted fertility and IVF, … [Read more...]
Foodie Friday: Fish&Co Mothers’ Day Platter!
Fish&Co is no stranger to Singapore's F&B scene and their iconic glass house branch at Park Mall is almost an institution in itself. All of us can testify to its generous and succulent portions of seafood served in a pan.Cosy Interiors at The Glass House flagship outletWe all know Moms around the world will only serve the best on the table to the family. Abrakadoodle Marine Parade – where Art is more than meets the eye…
It was a regular yet irregular weekday afternoon - while I was at work and the wife was held up in office too (it was both our hectic season). When she finally stepped home, she was pleasantly surprised to see Dana quietly drawing at the dining table - she was midway through her personal rendition of Piere Auguste Renoir's 'Auvers sur Oise', tracing the lines which would eventually be the rolling landscape dotted with lush green trees accentuated by white fluffy clouds … [Read more...]
Dads and the daughters they love…
I was chatting with my Mommy friends over the weekend and this topic of a father's role in our daughters' lives came up. This article from Focus on the Family sheds more insights on this discussion and gives Dads ideas how to make this relationship count.Daddy plays with Dana at her level!
