Attending Disney On Ice presents Magical Ice Festival is like being invited to the grandest Disney gala ball ever. You’ll get to meet a whole host of well-loved Disney characters whom we’ve grown up with. From Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Goofy to those heroines (and heroes) from our favorite classic fairy tales like Little Mermaid, Rapunzel, Beauty & The Beast and yes, including Princess Anna of Arendelle and Queen Elsa from the Academy Award® winning and number one animated feature film of all time – Frozen!
Produced by Feld Entertainment, Disney On Ice presents Magical Ice Festival is an enchanting winter wonderland you should not miss this March school holidays (particularly if you have mini Disney fans in the house). The visual effects are spectacular (love those pyrotechnics!), the costumes dazzling and above all, the ice-skating ice-skating choreography so mesmerizing.
In this review, I recollect some of my favorite moments from each of the four segments during the 2-hour long show. But of course, no Disney on Ice shows will be complete without first having Mickey Mouse and his friends to make an appearance to ra-ra the crowd! The kids went wild waving to their favourite Disney cartoon characters! I was busy introducing Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy to Buddy too. He loves listening and grooving to Mickey Mouse Clubhouse songs at home so this was the perfect occasion to acquaint him to the gang!
1. Little Mermaid
The fast-paced show wasted no time in ushering Sebastian and the Daughters of Triton on stage. It was a colorful extravaganza as the mermaids and sea creatures danced and sang to the upbeat songs. When Ariel emerged, the little girls in the audience were so happy to see her. I could tell why. She was easily the prettiest princesses of the night. We immersed ourselves in the underwater Kingdom as Ariel captivated our hearts with her sacrifice in search of romance. Her ice-maneuvers and chemistry with Prince Eric were stunning. Familiar tunes from Little Mermaid like “Under the Sea”, “Part of Your World” and “Kiss The Girl” kept everyone hyped up for the rest of the segments to follow.
2. Tangled
Among all Disney animation movies, Tangled remained my personal favorites for two reasons: it was the very first movie we brought Dana to watch in a theatre (a milestone) and I simply love the song, “I See The Light”. Naturally, I looked forward to this segment the most and enjoyed the humour portrayed by the sassy and spirited Rapunzel and her charming ally Flynn Rider. The flying lanterns scene was romantic too.
3. Beauty and The Beast
After a brief 15 minute intermission, the show returned with Beauty and The Beast. This segment surprised me the most with its stunning visual effects evident in the beautiful backdrop and fancy costumes donned by the loyal enchanted servants in the Beast’s castle. Among all the Princesses, Belle’s skating was the most elegant. Just look at all the lifts, twirls and swirls – seemingly effortless but so beautifully executed. The scene where the Beast was transformed back into Prince Adam was almost like ‘magic’. I was moved by this love story all over again.
4. Frozen
The last segment of the show was the one we were all waiting for. When the stage was transformed into the beautiful land of Arendelle, you could hear the anticipation building. When the rugged mountain-man Kristoff, his loyal reindeer Sven and the hilarious snowman, Olaf bounced onto the stage, the crowd erupted into raucous cheers!
The re-enactment of Frozen, along with its action, adventure, magic and theme of ‘true (sisterly) love’ won everyone’s approval and earned the loudest applause of the night. The royal sisters, Anna and Elsa did put up a fantastic show and the tons of ‘snow’ that fell transformed the Singapore Indoor Stadium into a magical winter wonderland indeed!
The finale song, “Let It Go” gave the 2 hour Disney on Ice Magical Ice Festival a rousing close. Almost every Mommy, Daddy and their little ones couldn’t contain it anymore and started to sing along. For me, to see my 8 year old totally enchanted by the magic of Disney all over again was a magical moment I will always treasure.

Thanks for the compliment Madeline. Actually there’s more than just the camera in the bag: tissue, the occasional diaper, pen, comb…etc…haha But ya, makes it look pro.

Thanks for the compliment. Yes…Disney is timeless and magical isn’t it? One of the few innocent things we can all hold on to these days.
