Turning 12, by all accounts, is a milestone. Even more so with our eldest turning twelve. The Covid-19 pandemic has thrusted non-stop contigencies on the work-front for the hubby and I. Since a major work event had just successfully concluded for me last week, I whizzed the family off for an impromptu 1 night staycay to reward ourselves.
I remembered reading about The Ritz-Carlton, Millennia’s Game Night Package which, in addition to special amenities for families, comes with a unique limited edition The Ritz-Carlton, Millennia Singapore’s version of Monopoly for the family to play and keep thereafter. For Dana, our very own board-game enthusiast, this has to be the perfect way to surprise her.
The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Welcome:

The hubby and I wanted this to be a complete surprise for Dana, right up to the day of check-in so we steathily packed for the staycation! Boy, with some coordination with the hotel, we pulled it off – Dana didn’t suspect anything until we drove up the grand driveway of The Ritz-Carlton, Millennia.
The moment we arrived, we were warmly greeted by the hotel staff as if we were long time friends returning for a visit! ‘Welcome back to the Ritz-Carlton’, they cheerfully chipped. The daughter whispered to me, “Wow, Mommy! They knew we had stayed here before?!” Impressive huh?
We were swiftly escorted to our Suite by a very friendly staff, Ms Cheyanne for check-in. The kids saw the little Ritz Kids amenities bags laid out for them on the bed and flashed the widest grins. They were also pleased to kids-sized bathrobes and room slippers prepraed for them. Those little distinctive Ritz-Carlton touches that make a staycation memorable right from the start.

Home Suite Home:

We would never tire admiring the breathtaking view of Singapore’s city skyline from The Rtiz-Carlton, Millenia. Knowing that this will be a birthday staycay for Dana, the hotel added a few special touches for us in the room.
First, sitting on the coffee table was a hand-crafted Grand Piano cake made entirely out of dark chocolate (Dana’s fav!). It was accompanied by a handwritten birthday card. The team also remembered Dana’s love for everything Harry Potter (from her birthday staycay 3 years ago). This time, they had a staff hand-paint a Harry Potter note-book for the birthday girl! Needless to say, Dana was awestruck and we, touched beyond words.

Make Time to Play – The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Game Night:

The bespoke exclusive The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore Monopoly game edition is as real as the real McCoy…only better! It’s super portable (only 1/3rd the size of the original). This means we can bring it along for many more staycations and overseas trips. We can strive to become a property tycoon by acquiring Singapore’s major museums, landmark attractions, as well as the hotel’s iconic art pieces, award-winning restaurants and rooms.
Inside the set are 3 unique Monopoly game tokens made specially for Singapore with significance to The Ritz-Carlton, Millennia – Formula OneTM racing car. (Singapore’s F1 night race), a luggage (Singaporean’s love for travel!) and the iconic ‘lion and crown’ from the Ritz-Carlton’s insignia. The kids were so excited they unboxed the set immediately.

The “Game Night” Room Package includes:

- Daily buffet breakfast at Colony
- One bespoke Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore Monopoly Game per stay

The other Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Room Package we highly recommend is the Ritz Kids Night Safari Adventure which we have previously blogged here.
Dip, Dip Hooray at the Pool!
The large and inviting pool with its uniform depth of 1.2 metres makes it safe and inviting for families. There are a variety of floats free for loan for the kids at the pool, testament to the fact that despite being a luxury hotel, the Ritz-Carlton, Millennia takes care of the needs of even its youngest guests! The pool is perfect place for the family to relax, have fun and bond over waterplay.

Kids Eat Free at Colony:

We took advantage of the F&B promotion for the months of March to May 2020 where kids dine free (for breakfast, lunch and dinner) at the hotel’s main restaurant, Colony with each paying in-house guest.
The buffet spread and quality at the Colony was nothing short of exceptional. Reflecting the journey and aesthetic of British colonial times, this all-day restaurant features 7 kitchens showcasing local and Asian cuisines. Among the delectable spread were Dana’s favorite food which she savoured from our travels around the world – fresh sashimi and sushi from our trips to Japan, succulent lobsters and freshly shucked oysters from our trips to Boston and NYC plus all the traditional local Asian food from Penang, Bangkok and of course, Singapore!

Thanks to lovely ambient at Colony, we spent time reminiscing her favourite holiday trips from her 12 years of existence while the younger brother listened on intently. It was a walk down memory lane for our small family of four – simple but significant.
Monopoly Game Night:
Even before dinner ended, the kids reminded us about the Monopoly game! So the whole family settled down for our Games Night, dressed in our comfy Pjs, against the resplendent city skyline view backdrop. It’s so unique playing the world’s most beloved family board game, while learning about Singapore and the unique guest experiences available in the hotel.

The hubby were initially concerned that Buddy, our 5 year old may not know how to appreciate the game with all the money counting etc…but surprise, surprise! His elder sis patiently explained to him the rules of the game in small, bite-sized bits as we played. With some prompting in simple additions and practice counting the notes, Buddy took to the game quickly and was ‘investing’ in properties and collecting ‘rents’ within the hour. I was thrilled by this unexpected educational learning moment! Finally, a fun, tear-free way to make the boy learn Math! Why hadn’t I thought of using Monopoly before? *face-palm*
I must admit, it was tough to stop the game but alas it was nearing midnight (yes!), way past the kids’ bedtime. Before retiring for the night, the kids made us promise not the keep the set as they want to continue the next day!
Sunny Side-Up: Breakfast at the Colony

The best staycations always include a hearty, leisurely breakfast. The spread we had at Colony was second to none. Personally, it’s one of my personal favourite hotel breakfasts. We took our time to savor the food and enjoy the sun-lit ambience. The service was top-notch, we enjoyed the casual chats with the wait-staff and chefs. I shall let the food advocate for themselves.

Letter to the GM:
Beyond just the world-class facilities, your team has delivered a consistent world-class touch that goes beyond service excellence. Everyone we came across, from the receptionists to the concierge to the chambermaids, gave us service right from their hearts! We were not only impressed, we were deeply touched by the sincere hospitality we received. The Ritz-Carlton, Millennia is truly a world-class luxury hotel for families who want to forge deep, special memories. Thank you for making it so for us and our kids, whom I’m sure will do the same for their own families in time to come!
