When we received the newsletter that Apple Pie is organising a 3-day Chinese Drama Camp in Dana’s kindergarten this June vacation, we knew we had to enrol her. We were first introduced to Apple Pie by by Mama Sue of Beanie N Us and Dana enjoyed their 5-day “Alice in Various Lands” Camp during the March holidays.
The creative team at Apple Pie uses creative props, costumes, dramatic storytelling, songs and dance to give a fresh twist to well-loved children fairy tales. This time, it was Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. Apart from stage craft and theatrics, the children also made creative crafts which are linked to the story.
We were pleased when Dana came home to inform us that she was given the role as the Evil Stepmother Queen; we knew she would be able to carry the role with her confidence and mastery of Mandarin. Her schoolmate, Amelia was Snow White. On the last day of the camp, it was customary for the children to put up a mini performance for their parents. We couldn’t wait!

Since many of us converse in English at home, I think it’s such an awesome idea to use Drama to entice the children to use Mandarin and enlarge their repertoire. Given that it’s only a short 3 half-days camp, the children put up a fantastic show – they recited, acted, sang and danced. It was evident from all of their smiles that they enjoyed the process tremendously. And they all look super adorable in these tiny costumes!

Having attended other similar children’s drama showcases, none can match the effort, ingenuity and dedication put in by the teachers from Apple Pie. Principal-Founder Daphne takes pride to ensure both fun and learning objectives are met in each of the Apple Pie Camps they deliver. That is the true distinction of an excellent enrichment provider.
