The end of another year is near and the start of brand new year will soon begin. It is a time to reflect on that which has passed and make resolutions for the upcoming year. As we take time to make our personal reflections, let us also remember that the close of 2014 will usher in a special Jubilee year where Singapore celebrates her 50th year of independence!
What does Singapore’s journey over the last 50 years of independence mean for you and your family? More importantly, what do you hope for Singapore as she surges into the next 50 years?
As part of the Marina Bay Singapore Countdown 2015, there is an opportunity for all of us to mark our aspirations known for our country on the 25,000 Wishing Spheres, which will be set afloat at Marina Bay – a great place to represent our port city, to reflect the collective wishes of all in Singapore. Every year, the Countdown Team takes care of as many as 25,000 inflatable Wishing Spheres. It’s no mean feat to go around the island to get the public to pen their New Year wishes, as it involves tens of thousands of spheres and even more participants! The aim is to reach as many in the community as possible as every Wishing Sphere represents a heartfelt hope that the New Year will bring new possibilities and a brighter tomorrow for Singapore.
We headed down to one of the Wishing Stations outside the Esplanade last weekend to do just that. We were thrilled to see there are already so many wishing spheres already set afloat in the bay! This year, the special element is that 5,000 red wishing spheres will be arranged to form the number “50” among 20,000 white wishing spheres to usher in our SG50 celebrations. We approached the friendly volunteers there to pen our wishes for the country on one set of the spheres. As we were doing that, many members of the public promptly joined in too!
From now till 23 Dec, head on to The Esplanade Outdoor Theatre and Concourse (6pm to 10pm) to pen your wishes for Singapore. If you can’t make it – you can always write your wish on a virtual sphere online.
