Well…sort of actually! After months of waiting and rescheduling, we finally brought Dana to the S.E.A. Aquarium on her 5th birthday. To make it doubly memorable, the S.E.A. Aquarium had just earned the coveted accolade from the Guinness Book of Records for being the World’s Largest Aquarium and the World’s Largest Acrylic Panel! To us, it’s a rare glimpse into the deep, mysterious, mesmerizing world of exotic marine life and a chance to marvel at God’s creations under the sea.
We planned our visit on a weekday (Friday) to avoid the infamous crowds but with credentials like those above, you can be sure that no matter when you go, there would be a substantial amount of people present to give the place the buzz that’s worthy of a world-class attraction.
The entrance to the S.E.A. Aqaurium is via the Maritime Museum in Sentosa. I love the symbolic walk through the mock-up of old Asian Ports, where visitors get the chance to appreciate the seafaring history of our Asian ancestors. Then through the exhibits, we are gradually led downwards, literally, to the depths of the sea and into a world teeming with colour, life and wonders beneath.

True to its name, the aquarium is segmented by virtue of the different Seas, Straits and Oceans in the South East Asian region. With the large varieties of exotic and rare marine life, one is easily captivated by the colours and patterns of the amazing marine lifeforms. I was awe struck that even the corals come in a myriad of fascinating hues. Their beauty is not only confined to their vibrant appearances but their abilities to thrive in the harshest, deepest depths on earth.
In the aquarium, Dana walked briskly from exhibit to exhibit, excitedly admiring the marine creatures that are exotic, fascinating and sometimes, odd and deadly all at the same time.

The interactive Touch Pool where kids (and adults) are encouraged to get up close and personal with the marine creatures was the highlight of our visit. Dana touched few varieties of Sea Stars (or more commonly known as Starfishes) and even a baby crab which supposedly can be found here on the shores of Pulau Semakau!

Having been to several Aquariums in other parts of the world, I still find myself surprised at the discovery of new facts of these marine creatures with every visit…It just goes to show how limited we know of the world around us and how easy it is to take the environment for granted…

We lingered a little longer at the Sea Jelly Exhibit as they simply too mesmerizing. The Sea Jellies (or Jellyfishes) are one of the oldest living creatures in the sea and also one of the most venomous. It’s amazing think how Nature can be so deceptive – camouflaging deadly poison with such beauty…

Many have lamented that Singapore lacks natural spaces and scenic attractions; but we take heart that we do not lack ample channels to expose our children to the natural world around us. Yes, the admission tickets are pricey…but what price do we pay if we deprive our kids the opportunity to experience something so magical and memorable like the S.E.A. Aquarium.

Nice pics captured ! A really colourful marine world. The shark eggs exhibit is definately much better exhibited as compared to Siam Ocean World in BKK ! Looks like we will plan a trip there soon !

My favourite oceanarium is the Valencian one. It’s external architecture is simply breathtaking.
