Hotel Jen Orchardgateway Singapore by Shangri-La

We have stayed in many city hotels during our travels, be it in New York, Japan, Bangkok or Taiwan. Those that offer conveniences of accessibility in the city often have rooms that are smaller, with limited or no views. Here are some surprises, from a hotel right in the heart of our very own Orchard road – Hotel Jen Orchardgateway – that will take your breath away!

1) Customer Centricity

The check-in process was unhurried, welcoming and informal. Within the lobby area one can truly sense the customer-centricity. There’s free-flow of refreshing fruit-infused drink and free mobile phone charging docks at the lobby.

Three unique features quickly caught our eyes: 1. Retro-looking bicycles parked at the ground floor lobby are provided free for guests to ride and explore our city; 2. Brightly coloured carts for pushing luggage and 3. Jeno the Robot! The kids were quite intrigued by Jeno and you can catch Jeno in action in our video highlights.

2) Chic and Cheeky

Despite being a city hotel, it was far from rigid. From the lobby area, into the rooms and out to the common spaces, the furniture, lighting and landscaping were designed to bring out the relaxed, casual vibes of Hotel Jen. ‘Jen’ herself would surprise guests with little quips that act as notices / signages around the hotel premise.

3) Convenient and Central

Another convenience that is noteworthy of mention is the fact that the hotel helps guests store their bicycles, for free!

Treated just like any other normal luggage, the friendly hotel concierge offered to tag David and Dana’s bikes for overnight storage safely in their luggage room so the father-and-daughter can ride to car-free Sunday directly from the hotel the next morning. Situated right below the hotel are popular malls like Orchard Gateway, Orchard Central, all connected to Somerset MRT. For guests, the location really can’t be beat. In fact, I sneaked out for 2 hours of retail therapy on my own while the kids and hubby took their afternoon nap. What a luxury to be able to carve some time just for myself. Exactly what staycays should be.

4) Comfort

Our family room has an connecting room for the kids complete with separate bathroom and wardrobe. This was ideal for families like us who do not want to compromise on comfort and privacy during staycation.

The infinity pool is a sight to behold and our fav place to hang out. Rated as one of the coolest infinity pools by TripAdvisor Website, the pool consists of a children’s lap pool, a big Jacuzzi pool and yes, that stunning infinity pool, perched way above the city crowd. This pool offers such a great vantage view at all times of the day – watching the sunrise in the mornings, taking a cool dip in the afternoons and winding down when the sun sets at night.

5. Connectedness

The hotel offers many wide, beautifully curated spaces like the Bamboo Terrace for guests to unwind and be re-connected to self, to loved ones and to the city. With so much thoughtful surprises and value-added services, Hotel Jen Orchardgateway truly is an oasis within this garden city. We’ll be back!
