One of the things we hope to continue doing this year is to bring our kids (especially our pre-schooler Buddy) to watch more quality children’s productions. High on our list would be KidsFest 2018 where every production is world-class!
KidsFest 2018 – The popular children’s theatre festival will be making its highly anticipated return to Singapore this year, from 19 January 2018 to 11 February 2018 for its seventh run. Presented by ABA Productions, KidsFest 2018 brings six fantastic productions staged across two venues over four weeks of fabulous family fun!
The six not-to-be-missed productions are:
1. Dinosaur Zoo
9th Feb – 11th Feb Victoria Theatre
Ages 5 and above
Get up-close and personal with an amazing array of creatures from bygone eras, connecting young audiences to the real science of paleontology! Meet awesome prehistoric creatures, from cute baby dinos to some of the largest carnivores and herbivores that have ever walked the planet! The dinosaurs from Erth’s Dinosaur Zoo™ are unmistakably ‘alive’ and mostly friendly in this fun, educational and unique performance. Learn how to feed and interact with Erth’s dinosaurs in a once in a lifetime interactive experience.
2. The Gruffalo
19th Jan – 21st Jan Victoria Theatre
Age 3 and above
Join Mouse on a daring adventure through the deep, dark wood in Tall Stories’ magical, musical adaptation of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s
classic picture book. Searching for hazelnuts, Mouse meets the cunning Fox, the eccentric old Owl and the party mad Snake. Will the story of the terrifying Gruffalo save Mouse from ending up as dinner for these hungry woodland creatures? After all, there’s no such thing as a Gruffalo – is there?
3. Hairy Maclary and Friends
26th Jan – 28th Jan KC Arts Centre – Home of the SRT
Age 2 and above
Young children from the age of two onwards will delight in meeting favourite canine characters from Lynley Dodd’s beloved Hairy Maclary and Friends books. Packed with live music, singing, colourful costumes and some of your favourite Hairy Maclary stories, it will be a fun time singing along and doing the actions with all the characters!
4. What the Ladybird Heard
1st Feb – 4th Feb KC Arts Centre – Home of the SRT
Age 3 and above
Two crafty robbers, one tiny ladybird, and a whole farmyard of fun and laughter! Hefty Hugh and Lanky Len have a cunning plan to steal the farmer’s fine prize cow. But they reckon without the tiniest, quietest creature of all: The Ladybird has a plan of her own! With live music, puppetry, plenty of audience interaction, join the woolly sheep, the hairy hog, the fat red hen and the dainty dog in this brand new colourful farmyard adventure.
5. Ugly Duckling
2nd Feb – 4th Feb KC Arts Centre – Home of the SRT
Age 3 and above
This Hans Christian Anderson’s classic tale will be brought to life on the festival’s stage for the first time. Hans Christian Andersen’s well-known tale comes alive with a menagerie of mischievous animals depicted through inventive physicality and live music that quacks and trills while taking us on a journey to discover the importance of identity, self-worth and inner beauty.
6. The Gruffalo’s Child
8th Feb – 11th Feb Victoria Theatre
Ages 3 and above
The hugely popular show that has toured Britain and the world, theatre goers will join the heroine’s adventurous mission in the deep dark wood, encountering mysterious creatures. Join the Gruffalo’s Child on her adventurous mission in this magical musical adaptation of the much-loved picture book. One wild and windy night, the Gruffalo’s Child ignores her father’s warnings about the Big Bad Mouse and tiptoes out into the deep dark wood. She follows snowy tracks and encounters mysterious creatures – but the Big Bad Mouse doesn’t really exist… does he?
