On Wednesday, 19 November 2014, we joined beneficiaries from Children’s Cancer Foundation to celebrate an early Christmas in authentic Din Tai Fung style. We learnt the art of making Din Tai Fung’s specialty xiao long baos (steamed dumplings) from the chefs in their highly popular Junior Chef Xiao Long Bao Workshop and were treated to a leisurely high-tea session featuring a scrumptious spread of Din Tai Fung’s signature dishes.

A MEANINGFUL CAUSE

I’ve attended many media events but this one touched me deeply. I was very heartened that aside from upholding their philosophy in delivering highest food and service standards, Din Tai Fung has taken a big leap in their commitment to give back to the society. This Christmas Charity event is the launch of their CSR (Corporate Social Responsibilities) where they aim to create awareness for childhood cancer and to rally support (moral and financial) to let these children and their families know that they are not alone in their fight.  My cousin was a childhood leukemia survivor and I’ve seen first-hand how such support makes a world of difference to the families. We met its Chief Executive Officer (Restaurant Division of BreadTalk Group Ltd), Mr Cheng William, a down-to-earth, affable family man whose heartbeat is to ensure this CSR initiative benefit as many of the Children’s Cancer Foundation families as possible.

To do that, they have made available limited edition Din Tai Fung keychains to be sold at $10 each island-wide and ALL proceeds will be donated to the Children’s Cancer Foundation. As diners, we can all do our part to buy a key chain to support Din Tai Fung‘s CSR mission to improve the quality of life of the cancer-stricken children in our midst. Every effort counts!
