The lobby is transformed into a colourful and welcoming Hospital Land! |
Hot on the heels of the very successful ‘Doctor for a Day‘ programme comes ‘Hospital Land‘ – a educational carnival organised by Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital! ‘Hospital Land’ aims to give children aged 4 to 10 a glimpse of the real-life job demands of some medical professionals which are indispensable in any hospital such as a pharmacist, a radiologist and an optometrist. Through simple games and interactive activities, kids get a chance to decipher PET-MRI scans, dispense and pack medication at a make-believe pharmacy counter and evaluate their friends’ eyesight.

The learning stations are set up at the hospital’s ground floor lobby so parents are able to witness all the activities. It’s designed to be a condensed version of what a kid would go through at ‘Doc for a Day‘ and at Kidzania (except with no uniforms, what a pity). At the end ‘Hospital Land’ station, children earn a badge and leave with a better understanding of how these medical professions work together to make a hospital click.

Registrations for ‘Hospital Land’ (at SGD15 per child) were fully subscribed within 15 minutes of its launch on Mount Elizabeth Novena’s Facebook Page last week but the organisers have set aside limited number of walk-in tickets on a FIRST COME FIRST SERVED BASIS (I was told the late afternoon slots are less crowded than in the mornings) so if you are are free tomorrow (Sunday 28 Sept) you may consider dropping by to sign up on the spot (subject to availability). It is not known if they will stage ‘Hospital Land’ again after this weekend (I hope they do!). The activities are planned with young children in mind and reasonably simple to pique their interest in these hospital careers.
Station 4: Anatomy |
A game to test your knowledge of your body’s anatomy… |
Carnival-like atmosphere at Hospital Land makes hospital a less-threatening place to be! |
In case some of you are wondering if there are any difference, ‘Doctor for a Day‘ is a scenario-based journey which focuses on the tasks undertaken by a Doctor / Surgeon. ‘Hospital Land’ is an carnival-based occupational-experience which focuses more on other key occupations in the hospital (such as a radiologist, a pharmacist and optometrist). In our opinion, it would be ideal to collapse both programmes as one since they are complementary. Do pop by to read Dana’s experience as ‘Doc for a Day‘.
Overnight oats anyone? |
The girls had a ‘hole-some’ experience at Hospital Land! |
Bonus Station: What goes into your Food Plate? |
One of her favourites: Fried Chicken! |
The hospital is also pleased to announce that they are releasing a FREE mobile app in October for all children to experience ‘Doctor For A Day’ from anywhere. The girls had a try on the app today and found it interesting. They can’t wait for it to be launched.

Hospital Land is fun in the company of best friends! |
Always a great idea to have a Bouncy Castle… |
for these hospital ‘professionals’ to unwind at the end of the day! 🙂 |
The entire ‘Hospital Land’ journey took about 45 minutes and the kids were ecstatic to end it at the bouncy castle. To ensure you get prompt updates of their future programmes, be a fan of Mount Elizabeth Novena’s Facebook Page. Dana enjoyed ‘Hospital Land’ because she learnt and played in the company of her B.F.F.s so if you want the experience to be more memorable, spread the word and invite some friends along. Have a wonderful weekend!
Proudly brought to you by Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital |
