This is another moment which will be a beautiful capstone for our family.
In August this year, we received an email inviting us to audition for a Parenthood TV Commerical. All we knew then was it is commissioned by PMO (Prime Minister’s Office), and it would be aired in conjunction with Children’s Day to promote families. We auditioned using the persona of ‘Singlet Daddy’ and ‘Scientist Dana’, little do we know it would be one of the most memorable projects we’ll undertake.
On the set… |
The ad, directed by local award-winning film-maker, director Royston Tan is a beautiful Masterpiece. It doesn’t sugarcoat parenting; instead, it portrays the trials, the challenges, the joys and the immense fulfillment of being a parent…the tender images of families (with their children) along with the music move audience subtly.
The ad was telecast for the first time on 30 September across various media (TV, Youtube and Cinemas). Our involvement in this parenthood TVC brings much significance to David and I because we spent nine long years of our marriage coping with the heartaches of a barren womb, listening to the echos of two empty hearts and nursing the trauma of losing three angels in Heaven. When we finally had Dana, our parched souls came alive. We found joy and laughter in our lives again. Imagine if we had let all these setbacks discourage us from pursuing our dreams to parent a child. Our daughter is our dream coming true and we will never trade this privilege of being her parents for anything in the world.
This segment is for all the Daddies out there. (There’s a separate feature for Mommies). We hope you’ll enjoy this ‘Parenthood Journeys’ TVC as much as we did being a part of it.
To all the little children in our lives, a Happy Children’s Day! To the team behind this production, thank you for allowing our family to contribute a small part towards this meaningful initiative. If God willing, we hope to grant Dana her wish of having a little sibling someday…
To our readers, you can support this Parenthood initiative by liking HeyBaby SG’s Fanpage and submitting your own parenting stories on their Website. If you’ve watched the TVC, do leave us a comment and let us know what you think. Have a blessed month of October!

The TVCs have just the right amount of tenderness without being cheesy. Wonderful work by Royston Tan and all the families involved.
