KidsFest 2016 – World-Class Festival for Families Returns with New Favourites alongside Well-loved Stories!
The most anticipated theatrical adventure for children, KidsFest is back! Now in its fifth year, KidsFest 2016 will run from January 20th to February 14th 2016, to captivate young theatre-buffs with the stage adaption of stories from six well-loved children’s books. Here is a summary of the 6 fantastic productions we can look forward to this year:
NEW AT KIDFEST 2016
1. Little Red Riding Hood
From the creative team behind the hugely popular Hairy Maclary Show, Little Red Riding Hood is a fun, original musical for children, with live music and lovable characters. Join Scarlet and her side-kick Stanley the Squirrel as they try to outwit Walter the Wolf and discover that it’s not just the enchanted forest that has magical powers… A forest full of family fun, this show is a joyous new version of the classic fairy tale.
For children aged 3 and above. Running time: 50 minutes with no interval.
2. The Snow Child
As Autumn leaves fall and the foxes, wolves and bears hide among the trees, we tell you a magical story about family, love and the power of dreams.
The first snow falls. Watching the village children play, a lonely couple yearn for a child of their own. They build a small figure from the ice and snow, and wish very, very hard… until the strength of their longing brings the magical snow child to life before their eyes!
She’s a girl like no other. As she dances in the wild landscape and talks with the animals, she brings joy, fun and laughter to the whole village. But it’s not easy, bringing up a wild daughter of the blizzards and the wind. As the seasons turn, and winter gives way to spring and summer, will the Snow Child and her parents find their “happily ever after”?
For children aged 3 and above. Running time: 60 minutes with no interval.
3. I Believe in Unicorns
Olivier Award nominated Wizard Presents brings best-selling children’s author Michael Morpurgo’s treasured story to life.
This intimate show is set in a library full of books that hold more than stories within their pages. It is a tale of the power of books, and the bravery of a young boy called Tomas. Tomas hates reading and school, but his world is turned upside down the day he meets the Unicorn Lady in his local library.
An enchanting and interactive production, I Believe in Unicorns, which won an Argus Angel Award for Artistic Excellence at Brighton Festival, sparks imagination in both young and old. We challenge you not to believe in unicorns after joining Tomas’ spellbinding journey.
For children aged 6 and above. Running time: 55 minutes with no interval.
4. Aliens Love Underpants
Aliens love underpants
Of every shape and size
But there are no underpants in space
So here’s a big surprise!
This zany and hilarious tale based on the best-selling children’s book is wonderfully brought to life on stage for the very first time.
With stunning effects, madcap action, original music (and lots of aliens of course!) this fantastically fresh and funny production will delight the whole family. You’ll laugh your PANTS off!
For children aged 3 and above. Running time: 55 minutes with no interval.
BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND
1. The Gruffalo
Join Mouse on an adventurous journey through the deep dark wood in this magical musical adaptation of the award-winning book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler (described by The Observer newspaper in England as “a modern classic”). Mouse can scare hungry animals away with tall stories of the terrifying Gruffalo, but what happens when he comes face to face with the very creature he imagines?
Let your imagination run wild with songs, laughs and fun for everyone aged 3 to 101!
For children aged 3 and above. Running time: 55 minutes with no interval.
2. Room on the Broom – another favourite by Julia Donaldson
Join a witch and her cat as they fly happily along on their broomstick – until a stormy wind blows the witch’s hat, bow and wand away into the night! With the help of a daft dog, a beautiful bird and a friendly frog, her belongings are retrieved. But this broomstick’s not meant for five and – CRACK! – it snaps in two. When a hungry dragon appears, who will save the poor witch? And will there ever be room on the broom for everyone?
For children aged 3 and above. Running time: 55 minutes with no interval.
