Hoshino Coffee is one of our ‘go-to’ places when we are craving for some uninterrupted family moments to enjoy quality Japanese–Western fusion food.
Why Hoshino: Here’s are some reasons why we love going to Hoshino:
Classy Ambience:
Tucked inside United Square is one of Hoshino Coffee’s latest joint. With its interior decked in an eclectic European decor complete with mini-chandeliers and leather couches at one end while another end is renovated in minimalist modern Japanese style, the Hoshino branch here exudes the classy and cosy interior of other Hoshino branches we are so familiar with.
Yummy Desserts:
Their signature French Toasts, Pancake Souffles and Hand-drip Coffees are gems that keep us going back!
Family Friendly:
Our kids like dining at Hoshino as they have kid-sized cutlery and a free toy (with every kids’ meal ordered). The new branch at United Square also boasts a mini library (near its entrance) where kids can browse picture books while waiting for their meals to be served. Each order of a kid’s menu comes with a complimentary colouring sheet, crayons and a toy. These little thoughtful gestures are very much appreciated by our kids (and us!).
New Menu Items: Hoshino Coffee recently added some new items to the existing tasty spread.
Teriyaki Chicken Steak Plate with Onsen Egg and Rice (Option to replace rice with toast)
This is a good dish for all to enjoy – the Chicken Steak was well-grilled and not tough at all. The marinade was light and not overpowering. The onsen egg was very delicious, with a light dash of sauce for flavouring. This dish, in fact, went well with the kids’ Grandma who enjoyed the tender texture of chicken with rice. It’s a dish loved by both young and old.
Omelette Rice & Angus Beef Steak Dish with Salad
This dish features Hoshino’s signature large Omu rice accompanied by a generous slice of Angus beef steak and garnished with fresh garden salad. The Omelette was cooked just nice – soft, fluffy. Once opened, it reveals a tasty and generous serving of tomato rice within. An instant hit with kids and adults alike. I ordered mine with steak to be done medium well. It came seared to perfection and yet so tender and juicy. Even my 9 year old wanted seconds of the steak!
Desserts and Drinks:
Matcha Pancake Soufflé Style
This is the new addition to the dessert menu. The dessert comes dressed with sweet red kidney beans and drizzled with maple syrup. Texture of the pancake is fresh and light with the taste of matcha (green tea) infused. Very tasty.
Pancake Soufflé style with Strawberry
This is a good dessert to partner the Matcha Soufflé. Rather than Green tea flavor, the soufflé-style dessert is drizzled with strawberry syrup and garnished with fresh strawberries. It’s an attractive dish for strawberry lovers like our 3 yr old. Note: The soufflés are baked fresh, do expect to wait about 20 minutes upon ordering. Best to order the soufflés before you tuck into your mains.
But wait! There’s more: There were so many other attractive options staring at us from the menu that we had to try! Here are some of them:
Chicken and Mozzarella Cutlet Plate with Rice (Option to replace rice with toast)
This is an interesting dish that displays how well balanced the texture and taste of the dishes here. I was cautious with this – Cheese in chicken, but we grew to like this dish after the first bite! The chicken was not over-fried and the mozzarella gave it a soft ‘creamy’ texture inside. Perfect for cheese lovers! The kids devoured the wedges that accompany the dish.
Pescatora Seafood with Tomato Sauce
This pasta dish caught our eyes as we are pasta lovers…and it did not disappoint. For one, it actually looks the same as the menu! (In fact, the dishes in Hoshino Coffee look like their menu counterpart – good!) The pasta was done al-dante with the taste of the tangy tomato sauce nicely infused. The calamari rings were cooked just nice, while the mussels were fresh and tasty too. A good choice for seafood pasta lovers!
Drinks: Ice Fruit Tea / Hot Fruit Tea
We chose the Fruit Teas to accompany the meal. The ice version was refreshing while the hot version was quite soothing and relaxing. They both went well with our choice of desserts too.
