| What a handsome looking cake for Fathers’ Day! |
Fathers Day falls on the third Sunday of June (which happens to be 15 June this year). Unlike Mothers’ Day, Fathers’ Day receives lesser hype and attention. Even the gifts tend to be simpler as Dads tend to be a little more laid-back and more practical. As wives, we can often get away with a handmade drawing from the kids, a blue-ray DVD of the husb’s favourite movie / TV series or a homely meal whipped up with him in mind.
I see a heartening trend where fathers today do much more hands-on care-giving now than they did a generation ago: changing diapers, getting up at night, taking children to the doctors, sharing chauffeuring duties and helping with housework (and homework!). We are very blessed that Dana’s Daddy is one hands-on Daddy. Despite his very stressful workload, he has always placed his family first in his list of priorities. For that reason alone, Dana and I try to do something special on Father’s Day to honour him.
We surprised Daddy with an early Fathers’ Day celebration last Friday. When he stepped home after a long, tiring week at work, we presented this classy Fathers’ Day cake from Emicakes (with a bowler hat and a moustache) to him. We fell in love with the design the moment we laid eyes on it – respectable yet fun-loving – exactly like our Daddy!

First of all, thank you for this fabulous giveaway! I have never bought anything special for my dad because he would tell me that I should keep the money for my own use and save it up for the future instead of buying presents or cakes for him. Although he doesn’t say such mushy stuff, we can feel his love from his actions. Actions indeed speak louder than words. He always sacrifices himself for us. He leaves the best portion of chicken, buy food that we love instead of what he likes. Before we can step out of house, we have to his nagging and questioning, whether we brought our ezlink card, key, umbrella
and water bottle. He would tell us not to come back home late at night. If we do, he will wait for us at the bus stop to ensure that we are back home, safe and sound. He bought us smart phones so that we could keep up with the technology but he is still using his old button mobile phone with prepaid card just so that he could scrimp and save up for our education. Daddy favourite’s Choco Truffle
I am sure in every one’s heart there is an unsung Hero. Of course, I am no exceptional – He is none others than my Dad! Yes, I am full of admiration and respect for my Superhero, whom works tirelessly days and nights to ensure that family is warmly clothed and well-fed. Despite his hectic rotating shift works, he will still take the trouble to buy our favourites dishes – Hainanese chicken from ‘Tian Tian’ and barbequed char siew for dinner, thereafter, he will travel to town to get breakfast specially for us, whenever he works morning shift. Of course, Mum will not be left out, because Dad will buy her favourite food for breakfast every day. So sweet! If Dad knows that there are places that sells nice food, he will travel all the way there just to get for us. Our taste buds are always fill with wonders! In our family, fruits are an essential after our meal daily, as Dad believes that fruits are beneficial to our mental health, well-being and growth, thus he will always buy lots of fruits. But that is not about all! After work, he will help Mum with the laundry. If it rains and our clothes does not dry up, he will take the trouble to iron the clothes pieces by pieces. During his off day, he will clean the house, so that we can live in a healthy and clean environment. Once every fortnight, he will change our bedsheets, so that we can have a clean and dustless sleeping environment. I remembered vividly on one occasion when our basin leak and water was gushing incessantly. Immediately, Dad gets all his tools to fix the leak. Yes, we can simply get a plumber to fix it, but Dad prefers to do on his own. It is not an easy task, as it requires lots of determination, hard work and patience and Dad did it! He not only look after our tummy, household chores, repair works, but also our health and wellness too. Why do I say so? Because, he will buy cordyceps for me and my brother, as he knew that it contains lots of benefits, especially to our vital organ – kidney. Of course, my sister is also not being neglected, as he will get for her Bak Foong pill, which is good for menstrual for ladies. Father may not be highly praised like Mum, but they are indeed our unsung Heros, who works quietly and humbly, just for the family. Indeed! I am really very fortunate and blessed to have him as my Dad.
