During the December school vacation, one of the holiday programmes we enrolled Dana was a hands-on Pizza making class at Modesto’s Vivocity. We invited Dana’s buddies, Maegan, Meredith and Valerie to join us and all four girls enjoyed a fun afternoon playing with flour and rolling pins.

Excited lil chefs all rearing to start! |
What was impressive about this holiday programme:
1. Every child is welcomed with a personalised chef hat and a kid-sized apron upon arrival. A thoughtful gesture and a most lovely souvenir to bring home (apart from the freshly-baked pizzas).

Lovely personalised hats! |
2.The session is fully-hands on. The kids get down to work right from the start: they kneaded dough, stretched it to shape, spreaded the tomato sauce and topped it with their favourite fresh ingredients (mushrooms, hams, olives, capsicums etc). That’s not all, they were even given a chance to put the pizzas into the wood-fired ovens to be baked! What a fresh and unforgettable experience for them all.

3. The chef-facilitators are very good with children; Besides being very patient and easy-going, they also went the extra mile to ensure the shorter kids can reach the table top by improvising box-stools for them to stand on. They also made the effort to address each child by name. There was good rapport and light-hearted banter throughout the session which made it enjoyable for the children.

4. After baking, we get to eat it too – right out of the oven, piping hot! I’m totally not biased when I declare it as one of the most delicious Mushroom & Ham pizzas we’ve ever tasted. Its thin crust and juicy toppings are addictive! The lil chefs were rewarded with extra treats too: apple juice and gelato!

5. After we cleaned up, we were led on a short exclusive kitchen tour which was an eye-opener, even for us adults.
It was Dana’s first pizza-making experience at an Italian restaurant and we’re glad it was so authentic and educational. We’ll highly recommend this holiday activity for children 4-12 years old. Do check out Modesto’s facebook page for more information on their next holiday programme for kids.
