KidsFest 2017 returns bigger and better this month where families will be treated to a total of NINE world-class productions adapted from best-selling children’s books!
Proudly presented by ABA Productions, for a month from 11th January to 12th February 2017, KidsFest 2017 brings stories from the page to the stage with interactive plots, fun songs and a great dose of humour. Three new shows will be introduced alongside past favourites across two venues: Victoria Theatre and KC Arts Centre – Home of the SRT.
Enjoy a Julia Donaldson Feast at KidsFest 2017!
As the UK’s award-winning author, Julia Donaldson needs no introduction in the world of children’s books. Having ignited the imagination of young children worldwide, this talented author with a background in song-writing and performance graces the stage to perform at a brand-new show, Gruffalos, Ladybirds and Other Beasts. With a delightful combination of the most iconic characters from five of her best-selling books – The Gruffalo; What the Ladybird Heard; Zog; A Squash and a Squeeze; Jack and the Flumflum Tree – this stage production is unlike anything you’ve seen before.
But what makes the show so much more special is the five-member cast which includes Julia herself, Malcolm Donaldson, her husband who plays the guitar and Julia’s sister, Mary Moore. After the hour-long show peppered with sing-alongs and audience participation, audience can look forward to meeting Julia in person at the book-signing session. In addition to the brand-new Gruffalos, Ladybirds and Other Beasts, not to be missed are three other classics by Julia Donaldson – The Gruffalo, The Snail and the Whale and Stick Man. Back by popular demand, the shows are recommended for first-time theatre goers aged three and up.
Michael Rosen’s award-winning book We’re Going on a Bear Hunt is brought vividly and noisily to the stage in director Sally Cookson’s fun-filled adaptation set to Benji Bower’s versatile lively score. Join our intrepid adventurers on their quest to find a bear; as they wade through the gigantic swishy swashy grass, the splishy splashy river and the thick oozy, squelchy mud! Expect catchy songs, interactive scenes and plenty of hands-on adventure – plus a few special surprises!
Also not to be missed is Shark in the Park, presented for the first time at KidsFest! Follow Timothy Pope on his day at the park, where he tries out his new toy telescope. What does he find through the lens? Could there really be a shark, in the park?
KidsFest also promises a historical and literary treat with a series of shows specially catered for the older kids and history buffs.

Would love to watch “The Gruffalo, The Snail and the Whale and Stick Man” and “Shark in the Park”. These characters from stories, becoming alive in theatre plays, will leave great impressions in my little one (4 yo). The inquisitiveness of my child matches those characters! Anytime is a good time for a story time in our daily lives. It could be a short story on our way to school, or having a splash in the bath.
Thank you for the lovely giveaway! Hope to be the lucky one to enjoy this wonderful production!
