We had family members visiting from the UK recently and they were keen to visit the S.E.A. Aquarium as they had heard much about it. Dana was eagerly looking forward to hosting her cousin whom she hasn’t met in 2 years. Imagine our surprise when we discovered that over and above their usual exhibits, the S.E.A Aquarium has a special Christmas programme, ‘Merry Fishmas‘ (1 Dec to 3 Jan 2016) for the festive season where it leverages on the year end holidays to allow families to learn more about underwater creatures.

Pick up a Merry Fishmas booklet at the entrance of the aquarium and you’re on your way! Look out for the 12 LED screens that explain the selected sea creatures highlighted in the booklet and answer the 12 questions. It was quite a special and heartwarming to see my daughter and her cousin Oliver trying to spot the LED screens at the different stations, attempting to read them and then answer the questions together. It was a great way for these cousins to bond and learn at the same time. 

Apart from this learning experience, children can make a wish by coloring one of the many fish ornaments and hanging them on the Christmas tree at the Open Ocean Exhibit. Once you’ve hung them, wait for good news…this is, after all, a season where wishes do come true!

At the Open Ocean Exhibit, children can have a go at a sure-win lucky spin. One child is allowed one chance at this lucky spin where everyone wins something.  Dana won a S.E.A Aquarium cap which she generously gave to her cousin as a memento. 

My cousins from the UK were thoroughly impressed with the S.E.A Aquarium, especially how engaging it was for the children. In fact, so thoughtful were they that we noticed that to complete the booklet, one doesn’t to write on it – you just scratch off the answers. How clever given that most tourists do not carry writing materials while on vacation.
