We’re very proud of our Singapore Zoo. Despite countless visits, we always managed to do something new each time. Last Friday, we brought Dana and Caleb to the Zoo. As Dana had music rehearsal in the morning, we only arrived at 1pm to be greeted by huge crowds and scorched by blistering heat. The redeeming factor was that the animals were all very active in the afternoons, probably because it was near their feeding times.
Upon arrival, we decided we should allow the children to navigate us. We gave them each a map, they would each pick an animal they wanna see and lead the way. It was more adventurous that way. When they were lost, they asked the Zoo Rangers for directions! Consider it as imparting some autonomy and life skills…

The highlight of our visit was the feeding of the Manatees! Manatees, also known as Sea-Cows, are endangered, large, fully aquatic, grey marine mammals. Because they are mammals, they can’t breathe underwater, but they’re able to hold their breath for long periods of time so they can feed. Manatees are herbivores and can eat more than 50kg of aquatic vegetation each day. We are glad that Dana had the chance to touch and feed the Manatees at the Zoo before they become extinct!

Before we call it a day, we went to the kid’s favourite pit-stop – the Rainforest Kidzworld. We bought the 3-in-1 pass which allows them to go on the Pony Ride, the Carousel Ride and the Horse Carriage Ride.

Hi 5! We went to the zoo too. Yesterday. It was a very very hot day. Zoo is always a fun place for the kiddos.
Some trivia for fun: Did you know that there are actually 7 crocs in that river? And the name of the biggest one is Monster 🙂 The father of a good friend of mine works at the zoo and told us that!
Hi MummyJ, the zoo always makes for a great day out. We try to make it fun by visiting different animals on different visits. But one place will always be our pit stop and that’s the Rainforest Kidzworld 🙂
Hi Mummybean, we didn’t know there’s 7 crocs in it! Thanks for letting us know. I’m keen to sign Dana up for the Kids Animal Zookeeper experience…Is that new?
