Every year for the past decade, we would endeavor to throw a birthday bash for our daughter that appeals to her sporty and active nature. It’s our own way of celebrating her life. In a way, it’s like our gift to her. This year, we thought we’d let her try wake boarding (a.k.a flow riding).
‘Surfing in Singapore?’ Yes and right on Singapore’s very own holiday island of Sentosa – the Wave House Sentosa. What a memorable party it turned out to be!
Here’s sharing our experience of our daughter’s perfect 10 party at Wave House Sentosa through a simple Q&A.
1) Do we need to know surfing to enjoy the place?
Quick answer: No! There are coaches to get you acquainted with the basics starting from lying chest down on a surf board. Then when you feel more confident, the coach will orientate you to do stand-up surfing by holding your hand as you try to negotiate the waves.
2) Is it suitable for kids?
There’s a surf coach to assist first timers (that include kids). Dana’s primary school friends were all very sporting and eager to try flow riding for the first time. Apparently, children as young as Buddy’s age (4 yrs old) can try flow riding as long as they reach the minimum height limit. However do note that regardless of age and height, due to the strength of the waves, one needs to have sufficient ‘weight’ to be able to enjoy the activity. In the case of Dana, she was ‘too light’ so the coach had to ride in tandem with her. If your kids are not ready for flow riding, they can always enjoy the wading pool.
3) How long is one wave session?
The sessions are for a one-hour block. Once the time is up, the waves will stop. For our party, we invited up to 15 kids max per lane.
4) Can I order my own buffet line /caterer?
For parties, food needs to be ordered from the Wave House Restaurant which serves pasta and pizza among other party fare. However, we must say the dishes that came with the party package were really delicious and wiped out by our guests in seconds.
5) Where can the food be served?
There are cabanas dotted across the alfresco main deck of the Wave House which can be used for dining as well as for guests to lounge around.
6) Can I bring my own décor for the place?
The party venue is largely an open space. You can hang your own banners and balloons like what we did to personalize the party. Upon confirmation, Wave House Sentosa would send you an email invitation template for you to invite guests. On the actual party day, they would display a personalised signage to direct guests to your designated party area. We ordered balloons from our trusted balloon vendor, Balloon Blasters to inject a more festive vibe to the party.
7) What else can we do there?
Lots to do, apart from riding the waves.
Wading: There’s a wading pool nearby where kids can just wade around playing. We rented some funky flamingo and Unicorn floats from Let’s Float SG which were a huge hit with all.
Eating: Our guests complimented the quality of the food. This includes the ala-carte dishes and drinks ordered from the Wave House Restaurant. Even the birthday cake which we ordered in-house exceeded our expectations. I merely added this printable chalkboard bunting to top the cake.
Shopping: There are quality swim and beach wear from Billabong Surf Shop located within Wave House Sentosa. Occasionally, there are generous sales as much as store-wide 50% discount offered! 100% legit.
8) Do I need to own a surf board?
Short answer is a ‘No’. There are boards at the wave area to be used and returned back.
9) How do I get there?
By car: There is no parking at Wave House Sentosa. If you are coming by car, park at the Beach Station then take the escalator to ground level to wait for the complimentary Wave House buggy to pick you up. Alternatively, you can park at the Costa Sands Resort and then walk across. You can also hop on a beach tram which will bring you to the doorstep of Wave House Sentosa.
10) What other things do I need to note?
Registration: Before staring the session, parents need to bring their kids to the Wake Desk to complete an indemnity form (with a Photo ID). Kids will be issued a wristband to identify them as party guests. Please ensure your kids meet the minimum height requirement of 107cm.
Car Parking: The car park at Beach Station – where the monorail station is, can be filled up quite fast especially on weekends and Public Holidays. If you are driving, do give yourself ample time to find a parking lot before your party starts!
Serve’s Up an Unforgettable Party
The service level at Wake House Sentosa deserves special mention. A dedicated staff is assigned to every party as the party host. Our host, a young chap named Dylan was very helpful, accommodating and attentive. Throughout the party, Dylan and his team were on hand to help us with the decor and other needs. Food was arranged and replenished promptly. They also helped us chill and slice the birthday cake. Kudos to them for making the party totally fuss free for us while we keep a watchful eye on the kids at the Flow Riding area.
Wave House Sentosa is a fantastic place for a party with a difference. The flow riding experience was unique and all our little guests enjoyed themselves so much they found it hard to say goodbye. Do contact the Wave House Events Team if you wish to enquire more.

Hello, thanks so much for the detailed blog recording for the Wave House birthday party. I got lots of information regarding the Wave House party from your blog. Really appreciate it. Just wanted to ask, was one hour of flow riding session enough for 10-15 kids? Or did you feel it was too short for the kids..? The other ten or so kids will need to sit and wait until their turn, right..? I would really appreciate it if you could reply! Thank you so much!

Hi Jeanne
thanks for your compliments on our post. We are always happy to share. There was indeed some waiting time involved but the kids are generally happy to chit chat with one another while waiting. For those who prefer not to do the surfing, they played with the floats which we rented in the pool. Overall, every guest was happily occupied and thanked us for inviting them. 🙂
