Apart from its functional purposes, our senses can trigger a whole host of emotions and memories. I recently had such an experience and surprisingly, it was not at any exotic locations but rather at the all-familiar Swensen’s restaurant.
Sinking my teeth into their newly introduced Boston Lobster Roll and Slipper Lobster Roll transported me to Boston pier which my family recently visited in June. Sans the baying of the sea gulls and the sea breeze, the chunky, succulent flesh of the Boston Lobster smothered in tangy mayo sauce triggered fond memories of our summer vacation. To be honest, we were VERY amazed to be able to find such good (and affordable) Lobsters rolls back here in SG!
Swensen’s Boston Lobster Roll ($21.80)* and Slipper Lobster Roll ($16.80)*
Daddy is smitten with the Boston Lobster Roll with its succulent chunks of air-flown red lobsters (with from one whole lobster) oozing out from the buttery grilled buns. I prefer the Slipper Lobster (or Crayfish as it’s commonly known) Roll as it’s lighter on the palate and more prawn-like in texture. Though friendly on the wallet, Swensen’s uses only fresh, imported lobsters to deliver bangs of oceanic flavor with every bite. The Lobster Roll and Slipper Roll sets come with a generous serving of fresh mesclun salad and piping hot U.S Fries which makes it a hearty meal on its own. Dana liked the macaroni and mushroom kids meal which comes in fun paper spacecraft serve-ware and a cup of apple juice.
We were stuffed after our Lobster Rolls but couldn’t resist sharing a Chendol Milk Shake for dessert. Yes, you read it right – the traditional Chendol dessert topped with a dollop of Swensen’s ice cream and ice-blended with Gula Melaka – seriously sedap (delicious)!
It is worth noting that Swensens’ ION Orchard, where we dined, is one of the chain’s latest stores and the ONLY Swensen’s outlet with an ice-cream and desert buffet spread. Parts of this spacious diner can be reserved for family functions too. In fact, we heard a table or two belting out the birthday songs ever so enthusiastically while we were having dinner. Yup, this is Swensen’s, the place may be new but the culture of celebrating special family moments at Swensen’s remains. If you’re a seafood fan, where else can you get such yummy Lobster Rolls for under S$20*? Don’t miss your chance to relish the limited edition Lobster Roll menu which is available at Swensen’s from now to 30th November 2014.
