A novel skating experience at The Red Square! |
Daddy and I would love to visit Russia but admittedly, we don’t know much about the World’s largest country except the fact that they used to be Communists, they serve a mean Borscht Soup (and Bomb Alaska), we have watched The Nutcracker Ballet and Dana has recently taken a liking to those pretty Russian Nesting Dolls. So when we were invited to a Media Preview of this ‘Fascinating Russia’ Ice-Skating Extravaganze at Changi Airport, we knew we just had to make time for it.
Fascinating Russia – happening at Changi Airport T3 Departure Hall |
Set against the colourful, world-renowned backdrop of Moscow’s St Basil’s Cathedral, the synthetic ice-skating rink promises to give children (and adults alike) a taste of the ice-skating experience at the Red Square! We were pleasantly surprised to see so many families there on a Wednesday evening.
A Passport and a Boarding Pass makes the experience fun and authentic! |
Helping Dana with the right shoe size… |
Excellent service in the form of patient and attentive staff… |
Having brought her to JCube’s Skating Rink before, Dana was familiar with these Penguin Skating Aids. They are a huge confidence booster to young kids who wants to pick up this sport.

After ten minutes of scooting around with the Penguins, our Princess decided to challenge her own boundaries by skating on her own. She has this adventurous streak which Daddy has nurtured in her since she was a baby and the Mommy was warned not to stifle it…

Loving the thrills of it all… |
She tumbled and fell, but each time she would pick herself up and continued skating! We stood watching outside the rink, exremely proud of her determination and unyielding attitude. There were times when the staff wanted to extend a helping hand but she politely declined them with a “Let me do it myself…” That’s our 4-year old for you.
Such joy Ice-Skating brings! |
It’s ok to fall because I can always pick myself up again! |
Look! I’m up on my feet again! |
Beautiful backdrop, awesome experience! |
Apart from the skating rink, there is an interactive exhibition with fascinating facts about Russia’s heritage, culture and famous tourist landmarks. We took a leisurely walk around the interactive exhibition to complete the activities indicated in ‘Passport’. Once we’ve collected 4 stamps, Dana brought it to the counter to redeem a small Russian Doll keychain souvenir.

At the exhibition, Dana had her photos taken with Russian Matryoshka nesting rolls, we learnt a little about the Russian alphabet, and the origins behind theTschaikovsky’s renowned ballets Swan Lake and The Nutcracker, as well as the classical musical composition Peter and the Wolf.

Russia, or Moscow at least is on my list of must-visits. The airport always has such great events. Looks really interesting but I think I’ve just about run out of time to check this out!
