LolliBox: Box of Wonder, Box of Fun!

We are happy to share our review of the latest LolliBox theme for October: Under the Sea!

We invited 2 of Dana’s playmates to join us on a Sunday afternoon to discover what LolliBox has to offer. We started on the DISCOVER component – Creating our Fishing Game.

Discover – My Fishing Game

To create the Fishing Game, the girls had to design and make their own ocean floor, cut and colour their own sea animals, and even create their own fishing rod! The completed fishing game would be an ideal indoor companion for these rainy days we’ve been having.

Parental Guide enclosed in each box…

We started the session by asking the girls to share with us what are some of their favourite sea animals. Meredith (5) said she likes Whales; Dana (4) likes Turtles and Maegan (6) likes Dolphins. We then read a short excerpt from our fav book ‘Commotion in the Ocean by Giles Andreae‘ before they drew their own version of the Ocean Floor with Oil Pastels.

We supplemented the theme with books related to the Sea.

After that, the girls used the water colour provided in the Lollibox to paint the Sea Animals!

They found it fun to paint with water colours!

While waiting for the paint to dry, we embarked on the 2nd component – CREATE. When they knew that they were going to make their own Sea Aquarium, they were psyched!

Materials required for building the Mini Aquarium were all included!


The look of concentration and determination…

After the Mini Aquarium’s done, Dana and Maegan continued on the story while the adults (Daddies and Mommies) helped to cut out the Sea Animals for the Fishing Game.

Always heartened to see little kids reading on their own!

We modified the Fishing Game by attaching a small magnet to the end of the Fishing Rods and adding paper clips to each Sea Creature. The girls were very proud of the finished product and had a jolly time playing with it! A very creative Mommy friend (Serene) suggested modifying the game further by printing a number on each Sea Creature so we can use it to practise simple ‘Addition’ or ‘Subtraction’ (where kids would have to race to fish out the correct answer to each sum). I thought that was brilliant!

More neighbouring kids came to join in the fun mid-way!

We spent 2 fruitful hours completing these 2 crafts. Maegan and Meredith couldn’t stop talking about the mini aquarium they’ve created while Dana was keen to play the fishing game repeatedly. The girls enjoyed themselves so much they have already asked when they can do it (i.e. LolliBox) again!
