Ever since Dana sprouted 2 teeth, she’s shown more interest in what we’re eating than her usual porridge. So mummy has to scour children’s cookbooks for more ideas to plan her post-porridge weaning menu. One new dish we’ve prepared for Dana today was the Green Peas with Potato & Onion Soup. We served it with bread and Dana seems to like it although it has a distinctly ‘vege’ taste. Proud of her!
Here’s the recipe (2 servings):
Ingredients:
Frozen green peas 50g
Half a Potato (abt 160g)
Half an Onion (optional)
Stock 600ml
Method:
1. Rinse the frozen peas and drain
2. Cube the potatoes
3. Bring the stock to a boil and add in the potato cubes
4. When the potatoes have softened, add in the peas and bring to a boil
5. Simmer for 10-15mins
6. Blend the mixture and serve with rice or bread
The Goodness of Peas (from http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com/)
The nutritional value of peas is amazing! One cup of peas contains more protein that a tablespoon of peanut butter and also provides calcium, Vitamin A and C and Iron too! Green Peas are a great first “green” food for baby as they are nutritious, and mostly pleasant to eat. You can introduce green peas to babies from 6-8 months of age.
