Trust the folks at the Singapore Repertory Theatre (SRT)’s The Little Company (TLC) to outdo themselves again – turning a well-loved fable for children into an hour-long musical production, which had the audience – children and parent alike, entertained and engaged.
This adaptation of the familiar children’s classic of how the Three Billy Goats Gruff forced by a bout of horrible drought were tempted to cross the bridge to the other side of the valley where the grass looks greener. But danger lurks in the form of a big hungry troll bent on making goats his supper. Here in this version, The Three Billy Goats (affectionately named Big, Middle and Baby) sought the help of their caretaker, Little Bo Frilly, the lesser-known sister of Little Bo-Peep who apparently is just as capable of losing her goats, on their mission of survival.
The production is well-paced and carried very well by the 5 member cast comprising of established actors from SRT. Their diction were clear and the humor and comedic timing perfect to the T. With a new twist to the plot, children and adults alike were glued to their seats, and swaying to the catchy, infectious tunes which featured elements of Bluegrass, Jazz and even Yodeling. Together with the dazzling tap-dancing routines, eye-catching props and light effects, SRT has raised the already-high entertainment factor of the musical even higher!
The Three Billy Goats Gruff is a A-class entertaining family musical adventure for all ages to enjoy. It will leave you tapping, yodeling and smiling, just like it did for today’s full-house audience.
