There’s something about stars that is so mesmerizing. When we were touring Taiwan in June, an aboriginal guide brought us to a deserted plateau on the mountain top one clear winter’s night to star gaze and it was one magical experience we would never forget. As we stood there huddling for warmth in the chilly sub zero temp, the stars were dancing brightly in splendid display of God’s magnificent creations. Whatever we have read about star constellations – Orion the Great Hunter, Leo the Lion, Pegasus the Flying Horse etc.- all became so visible to us. That night, a million stars sparkled in the black canvas sky like diamonds. We stood there, mesmerised and in awe.
With our fascination with stars and astronomy, it is no wonder that one of our favourite picture books is ‘How to Catch a Star’ by award-winning author, Oliver Jeffers. It tells the charming story of a little boy who loves stars very much, imagining one would make the best of friends. With childlike ingenuity, he tries all methods to try and capture a star for himself. For example, he decided that morning would be the best time to try to catch a star “because then the star would be tired from being up in the sky all night“. Although finding and catching a star is of course not easy, the story does end happily – with a clever twist where the boy does find a ‘star’ which he is happy to call his own.

We are happy to know that Aba Productions and Blunderbus are bringing in this funny, gentle adaptation of Oliver Jeffers’ story for kids in Singapore! This clever new show comes to life with an irresistible blend of music, puppetry and storytelling – a must-see for small people aged 3-7, and grown-up stargazers!
So don’t miss your chance to go on this incredible moonlit journey across land, sea and skies on ‘How to Catch a Star’!
