Traditional celebrations such as the annual Mid-Autumn Festival are great excuses for family to get together. There are the lanterns and there are laughter, stories and…yes, food – mooncakes to be precise. This year, BreadTalk’s extensive mooncake collection will complement rich family moments as loved ones gather over traditional yummy mooncakes along with the ‘hip and happening’ contemporary ones with delectable delicious fillings that will fit any tastebuds.
Centred on the theme of ‘花好月圆, 家节团圆‘ – Home, Light Up my World’, BreadTalk hopes to bring everyone together to celebrate this joyous festival over a delightful box of mooncakes. To commemorate the Singapore Botanic Gardens attaining UNESCO World Heritage Site status, BreadTalk’s 2015 mooncakes come in exquisitely designed boxes inspired by Singapore’s national flower, the Vanda Miss Joaquim. Let’s take a look:
PRESTIGE (S$47.05-S$54.05 for 4 pieces)
Prestige is a timeless collection of BreadTalk’s well-loved classic flavours: Lotus with Yolk Blend, Lotus with Melon Seeds, and Wu Ren mixed nut paste, the most traditional of all mooncakes. Crafted with premium preservative-free natural white lotus paste, the special yolk blend variety also promises a generous bite of smooth egg yolk evenly-distributed through every slice. Each Prestige box features a distinctive Chinese character: Blossoms (花), Goodness (好), Moon (月), and Reunion (圆). Collect all four boxes to complete a family pack that forms the auspicious Mid-Autumn Festival idiom “花好月圆”, which means to be in a state of joy and bliss together.
JOYOUS A (S$69.45 for 8 pieces) Mao Shan Wang Durian Snowskin Mooncakes
The Joyous series will bring joy to snowskin mooncake lovers (like me) with its light and refreshingly chewy snowskin dough. Joyous A presents the new Mao Shan Wang Durian snowskin mooncakes made with only the best Mao Shan Wang durians.
JOYOUS B (S$51.05 for 8 pieces) Alcoholic Snowskin Mooncakes
Joyous B showcases eight mini snowskin mooncakes, each enveloping a Valrhona truffle imported from France, with an exciting medley of four flavours: Coffee Baileys Truffle, 12 years Macallan Whiskey Truffle, and the new Cherry Brandy Truffle and Lychee Martini Truffle.
ROYAL (S$95.05 for 10 pieces)
The elegant Vanda Miss Joaquim, set against a backdrop of royal orange symbolising luxury and success, is a picture of quiet sophistication. The open box lid, reminiscent of an eagle spreading its wings in flight, lends an air of elegance and prestige to the occasion. This generous selection is presented with 10 regular and mini traditional mooncakes including the new Green Tea Azuki, Mini Chocolate Brownie, Mini Yuzu Lotus, Mini Jasmine Tea, and Mini Black Sesame, bringing much joy to everyone this festive period.
HELLO KITTY (S$59.80 for 4 pieces)
Undeniably the cutest mooncake in town this year – the Hello Kitty character series mooncakes, which are exclusive to BreadTalk. Packaged in an adorable, trademark red Hello Kitty makeup toolbox with a built-in mirror. This limited-edition set consists of two pieces each of the Lotus with Macadamia, Lotus with Cranberries, and BreadTalk-exclusive Lotus with Yolk Blend mooncakes – “purrfect” for those who appreciate all things bright and beautiful! It comes with its own set of cutesy cutleries too!

When I was young, my mum would always let us join the Mid-Autumn Festival celebration organised by the Community Centre. I enjoyed carrying my lantern and walk-about in the estate with my sibling, followed by participating in the games like 猜灯迷 before enjoying the 猪仔饼. Now that I have my own children, I enjoy bringing my kids for sampling of mooncakes at bazaar before we decide on a box that we agree on.

My fondest memories of Mid Autumn Festival is when my 11 cousins and I gathered during this period at my grandfathers house to play with our transitional candle lit lanterns. All of us would have one each, all different animals, such as butterfly, dragon,
Rabbit and dog. We would play in the garden, worry about the wind blowing out our candles and also have lots of fun playing with sparklers. Once my lantern caught fire and I remember it till this day :).
I hope to share all these experience with my kids and hope to win the Prestige Set B 🙂 thanks

When my sister and I were kids, our mum would bring us to the nearby playgrounds to light and play candles and lanterns during the Mid Autumn Festival. I can remember almost all the Mid Autumn Festivals that we celebrated together. Now that we have grown up, we would visit the nearby park to celebrate this joyous festival together with the other residents in the neighbourhood. At the park, we would eat mooncakes, sip tea, play candles and lanterns just like when we were young. Spending time together and celebrating this festival is my fondest memory of Mid Autumn Festival.

Travelling back in time now , I remember celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival with my cousins at my Grandmother’s house in Shun Fu Road when I was a 10-year-old girl , 39 years ago .
As night fell & the bright full moon took over the sun in the sky , 8 of us assembled at the soccer field infront of my Grandmother’s house . My eldest cousin was the leader . Each of us carried a paper lantern of different colour , shapes & designs . We were very excited and looking forward to an enjoyable evening of fun , carrying our lightered lanterns & walking around the neighbourhood in a procession . Each lantern has a small , lightered candle . It was a happy celebration for us !
I hope to win a box of Hello Kitty mooncakes & share it with my cousins to recall all the childhood memories once again !

My fondest memory of Mid-Autumn Festival was when I was young and we would all gather, all the children in the extended family, and me and my cousins would happily take lanterns to walk in the night downstairs at the void deck, whilst the adults would be chatting over some traditional mooncakes. The Mid-Autumn Festival is especially meaningful because it is a time when the family gets together and the time spent cannot be described in words.. My fondest memory of Mid-Autumn Festival is when i’m little…
I come from a relatively poor family thus i celebrated Mid-Autumn Festival the most simplest but happy way..
My cousins, my brothers, our friends and i will usually meet at the playground below our flats to carry lanterns together. Our lanterns are those traditional paper types which comes in few diff shapes and brighten up with candle fire. Im always very careful with mine so i can reuse it yearly 🙂
Usually the guys will buy few packs of candles and we’ll lid the candles up in row along the railway track behind our block of flats and the guys will start ghost story telling and im always looking forward to it as im an adventurous person
I do not know why ghost telling on mid-autumn festival but i guess it has become our kind of tradition.
My mum will usually buy those cheap mooncakes with red bean filling.
It tastes the nicest to me!
