The person who coined the simile ‘sleep like a baby’ probably isn’t a parent. One of the first challenges any parents would face is the loss of continuous sleep when they first welcome a newborn. The breastfeeding, diapering and associated chores may be back-breaking but the sleep disruption is often the one thing that robs us of our sanity.
When Buddy first came home, he needed a milk feed every 2 hours. He was also a very light sleeper and we would spend hours taking turns to put him to bed, only to have him wake and wail multiple times during the night for diaper changes. We tried every method there is to get the baby to sleep through: giving him a full feed, creating bedtime routines, cutting down on daytime naps, teaching him to self-soothe etc but none worked. Parenting books we read all tell us that infants (4-11 months) sleep a minimum of 12-15 hours per day but Buddy was an anomaly. We were getting helpless…eventually the hubby succumbed to my suggestion to bring in the ‘sleep fairy’, in the hope that the fairy can break the curse of the interrupted sleeps.
To our dismay, we continued to wake up at unearthly hours to tend to the crying babe. Some nights he wakes to feed; but most nights, it was due to wet diapers causing him discomfort. We took turns to change soiled cot sheets in our half-asleep state when the diapers leaked. This took a toil on us as we couldn’t concentrate at work the following day. Things got so desperate we wanted to bring him to consult a specialist for sleeping disorders. Yes sleep deprivation does scary things to us.
This went on for 6 months until very recently, we seemed to have achieved some small break-through after we switched to using Drypers Drynights diapers on Buddy. For the first time ever, he slept through the night! After his last milk feed and diaper change at about midnight, he would sleep soundly till 5am in the morning, until time for his next feed. Even then, it will just a milk feed and back to bed he goes till 8am (no diaper changes, no leakages, no meltdowns!). This, to us, is a huge breakthrough.
Drypers Drynights’ absorption core is longer than the previous brand of diapers we used. The absorbent core is the key component of any diaper. It is designed to pull moisture in and trap it to keep wetness in the diaper away from babies’ skin. Drypers Drynights’ longer absorption core therefore provides greater absorbency of up to 12 hours of long lasting dryness so that babies can sleep longer without a diaper change. For an extremely light sleeper like Buddy, the last thing we want for him to fuss in the night due to wet diapers or a diaper leak. The longer absoption core enables babies to sleep for longer stretches and the reduction in the frequency of diaper changes translates into practical cost savings for parents too!
Drypers Drynights also comes with leak guards that gently hug the baby’s legs to prevent leaks. Having undergone the ‘baptism of fire’ in changing soiled bedsheets caused by diaper leaks, we’re so relieved to say Drypers Drynights have been dependable. Since babies are in diapers almost 24/7, it’s not uncommon to see diaper rash outbreaks. With Drypers Drynights’ 100% soft, breathable cloth-like cover that contains 4 Natural Plant Extracts (Aloe Vera, Chamomile, Olive Extracts and Vitamin E), Buddy’s skin remain cool and fresh, preventing diaper rash!
Having used Drypers Drynights for a few months now, I’m also impressed with several other subtle features. The durable flexi-tape which allows me to re-fasten the diaper multiple times without tearing; the stretchable waist band fits babies comfortably that even for a 95% percentile baby like Buddy, he crawls about freely without any restriction or discomfort.
Nothing brings us greater satisfaction than to see our babies growing happily and healthily. With Drypers Drynights, babies stay dry and comfortable for longer periods and parents get back their sleep. When we have happy babies, we have happier families!
