Roaches!!!???
First, I have to say that we don’t eat in our car and we forbade our kids to do it too. Aside from the occasional takeaway or ‘tapaos’ that we buy home in the boot, eating in the car is a major ‘No, No’ for us.  The only exception would the be occasional bottled milk feeds for Buddy.

So,imagine my shock when early in the session with EA Detailer, I saw with my very own eyes small roaches crawling INSIDE my car cabin during fumigation! When the fumigation session ended, I was so embarrassed (and shocked!) when the staff there showed me the amount of small roaches that lived in my car.  If roaches are found in our car, we shudder to think the number of roaches that will exist in those cars where kids (and adults) to eat and snack freely.

The Uncomfortable Truth:
Surprisingly, the staff was quite calm about it and assured me with the uncomfortable truth that it is a common sight in cars regardless of how well you try to keep it spanking clean. Truth is, roaches can enter the car even if you do not eat inside. The interior of the car is often warm and humid, perfect conditions for these pests to dwell. We would ‘invite’ roaches into the car even if the leftover smell of takeaway food inside the car. In addition, dust, pet dander and other dust can breed dust mites as well as other microscopic pests in addition to these pesky roaches.

The Car – Our ‘2nd’ Home:
For those of us who own cars, it’s a fact that apart from the home and office, our cars are the next place which we would spend most of our time in. But what makes it worse is that in the car we are all within very close confines of one another, including with these pests! Which is no wonder that sometimes our children may get allergic reactions after sitting in some cars.

Beyond Mere Car Grooming:

Before the cleaning process started, the staff removed any leftover items from the car and placed them neatly in a well-demarcated box to ensure our items will not be misplaced or lost.

Bio-Fumigation:
Fumigation is one of the fastest way to get rid of pests in the car. The common method of ‘baiting’ – laying a sticky trap etc…not only is slow and ineffective, it leaves harmful poisonous compound in the car along with the carcasses of the dead pests if not cleared regularly.  The Pandan Leaves trick advised by many taxi uncles also ain’t effective after a day or two. In urban Singapore, I have friends who told me that stopping kids from eating in the car is almost akin to mission impossible so the only way to eradicate these tiny critters fully is via fumigation. The Bio-Fumigation process adopted by EA Detailer is safe and non-toxic to human beings. The fume used were from plant extraction, non-toxic, biodegradable and digestible.

Fogging….then what lies inside?

During the bio-fumigation, a machine omits a steady steam of ‘smoke’ to fog up a car within seconds! The car doors will then remain shut for about 3o minutes. During that time, the car exterior is washed. The high quality washing agent used are from Germany. I was particularly impressed when the dirt and grime from the tire rims basically just flow cleanly off, revealing the shiny rims beneath! I was also impressed that there were 4 staff dedicated to washing my car giving my car a very detailed wash.

All hands on deck  – the team was very professional and had an eye for detail.

20 minutes into the fumigation, I could see the staff curiously peering into the car window. As the smoke in the interior cabin slowly dissipated, we were able to see small roaches being ‘forced’ out of their hiding places by the fumigation. Subsequently, the roaches were slowly picked and disposed off. I squirmed and sighed a huge sigh of relief!

Sanitizing:
Following the fumigation, the interior was carefully wiped-down, meticulously vacuumed, every inch dusted and sanitized. In fact, the sanitizing agent used inside the car cabin have been medically certified safe for use even in hospitals, including Singapore General Hospital. I was impressed by the attention to details as the staff carefully dusted the air-con vent and polished even the engine compartment, the sides of the doors and boot etc. It’s a lot of manual hard work but the dedication of the staff was beyond impressive.

As part of the interior’s cleaning , the cabin is steamed cleaned as well as treated with a compound that sterilizes the interior the same way as how world-class hotels would clean and sterilize their rooms to remove any trace of odour. The interior and the seats were then coated. The special compound used ensures that the surface of the cabin, the dashboard and the seats have a ‘Matt’ finish, just like a brand new car! In fact, I never dreamt my car interior would look and smell so fresh again!

Back to the showroom shine!

Baby Shouldn’t Be Left Out:
Baby’s seat deserves to be cleaned thoroughly but how many of us know how to do it properly? In fact, baby car seats are left out of the car cleaning process. Baby’s car seat can be quite dirty with milk stains or crumbs of food fed to the baby, dirt stains on the seat etc…making baby’s seat a haven for germs and bacteria!

Cleaning baby’s seat at EA is more than just simple vacuuming. The process includes:
– Steam Cleaning (To loosen any dirt, dust particles and food substances attached to the seat fabric and kill dust-mites)

Finally, at the end when our car was driven into the showroom, I really couldn’t believe my eyes!

The exterior of the car, including every little nooks and corners were all shiny new. This includes the engine, the insides of the bonnet, the boot and the sides of the door. Stepping into the interior, it was as if I had stepped back in time 7 years ago when the car was brand new. More important than receiving the keys to an almost ‘brand new’ car, I know the car interior is now 100% SANITIZED, CLEANSED and SAFE for my family’s use. Something we cannot underestimate especially with very young kids.

The Importance of Consistent Cleaning:
We clean our home regularly but sadly, we don’t clean our cars, especially its interior that conscientiously.
