PayPal, the global leader in online payments, will be conducting its popular ‘Kids in Tech 2017’ Code Camp in Singapore during the September school holidays!
This Camp originated in the United States as ‘Girls in Tech’ programme – a global non-profit initiative focused on the engagement, education and empowerment of women in technology and entrepreneurship.
In line with the national agenda to make Singapore a ‘Smart Nation‘, PayPal Singapore has decided to expand the camp enrolment this year to both boys and girls. Open to children aged 9-11, the Kids in Tech 2017 – Code Camp provides an opportunity for children to learn coding from PayPal experts, while cultivating their passion for technology and programming – a highly desirable skill in today’s digital economy.
More about PayPal Kids in Tech 2017 – Code Camp
Kids in Tech 2017 – Code Camp is a fully sponsored event by PayPal Singapore under the Culture and Unity Singapore charter. It hopes to get girls and boys excited about technology so that they will begin exploring the discipline earlier and be more likely to consider IT as a career.
The 3-day Camp focuses on the nature of computers – where they are found, why they are useful, and how they work. Participants will come to recognize code as a language used to instruct computers, as well as a means to tackle complex problems. Through the building of a game in Scratch, participants will learn how to formulate algorithms (chain tasks together to solve a problem), construct loops (computers are great at repetitive tasks so exploit that!) and rely on conditionals (enable computers to make decisions).
They will then move on to explore these concepts through hardware, by building a series of projects using BBC’s Micro:bit. Participants of the camp will not only learn coding, they will also have the chance to tour the PayPal Singapore office to meet and be inspired by the leading team in the sphere of technology.
When and where will the PayPal Kids in Tech 2017 – Code Camp be held?
Date: Tuesday to Thursday, 5 to 7 September 2017
Time: 8.30am to 6pm (Breakfast, Lunch and Tea Break will be provided)
Venue: PayPal Singapore (Multi-Purpose Room), 5 Temasek Boulevard, #09-01, Singapore 030985

Child’s name: Jasmine Gan
Age: 9 years old
My daughter recently is interested in coding and gaming. She is always curious on how the games’ logic works. I can’t answer her questions as I’m quite IT challenged 😜. Hopefully she can get to attend this workshop and gain some insights on how coding works and spur her interest further in IT.
Child’s Name: Gui Qi Xuan Sharilyn
Child’s Age: 10
How She Will Benefit: She is a child who is not given much exposure to electronic gadgets and computer or hand phone games as we believe more in social interaction and physical toys. However we did try to expose her to Lego Robotics set (once), and she just attended a short coding session conducted by vendor that her school engaged. She came home very excited about the session and sharing with us how interested she was. So this workshop would definitely fascinate her and give her the opportunity to pick up more IT related skills that would be useful for her in the future, be it in her next course of study or work later in life.
Hope that she can win this Giveaway and spend 3 good meaningful days of her Sep hols. Thank you for the Giveaway in advance.
