SRT's The Little Company's 'Rapunzel' is an exceptionally well put-together musical play for young audience and families. We watched it on Saturday and loved it.From March 14 to April 30, 2014The plot is easy to follow and keeps kids riveted to their seats. Dialogues are engaging and not excessive, pitched to cater to kids' short attention spans. It starts with a teenaged Rapunzel's imprisonment in the tower instead of retelling it traditionally from the time Rapunzel was a newborn … [Read more...]

Making Memories Through Music: Piano Duets for Kids
A wonderful way to motivate children to persevere in their music lessons is to enthuse them to play melodies they enjoy. In our home, Daddy makes an effort to play simple duets with Dana every week. Hearing them make music together has become one of my favourite family bonding time. Here are 12 good piano music duet resources for parents: 1. Two at the Piano: 50 Duets for Young Pianists by … [Read more...]
Giving kids a sense of the Resurrection…
Easter falls on 20th April this year. Unlike Christmas, where the world celebrates Jesus' birth lavishly - decking our homes and malls with Christmas trees and tinsels, playing Christmas music for a month, feasting on log cakes and giving outlandish gifts to everyone. But Easter? Easter has always been a nebulous festival associated with Easter bunnies, Easter egg hunts and Easter Egg crafts. We may find a handful of books in the bookstores and a few songs … [Read more...]
Child Label – A Label of Love
I recalled when we had to enrol Dana in infant-care at 4 month old back in 2008, we were asked to label her milk bottles, bibs, clothes, socks and other essentials to avoid any loss or mix-up at the infant care centre. I scouted around for durable and attractive labels but to my dismay, there were none to be found locally. In the end, we had to pay premium to order from Australia. I had to combine and coordinate orders with my girl friends just to qualify for free shipping. Either that or we had … [Read more...]
An Elephant on Ice…Review of Disney on Ice: Treasure Trove
I’m writing this after having been to our 3rd Disney on Ice. Before you say, ‘Yeah, so what’s the great deal?’ Well, first you have to know that I’m a serious movie and musical buff – I love movies and musicals that have a certain ‘cerebral edge’ - those with allegories, conspiracies and metaphors. So for me to, willingly, go to my 3rd Disney on Ice…is no mean feat. Why did I do so? Because these shows where fairy tales come to life transport us all to a magical world where dreams come … [Read more...]
Let there be…LIGHT.
Giant Dandelions by Olivia' D AbovilleThe spirit is willing...but...It's strange... to have these thoughts cross my mind last Sunday in church. The very words cautioned in the Bible crept into my mind as I contemplate what had initially sounded like a fun night out, turning it into one that I may just drag my feet through. You see, I was glad to serve as a church musician...it's my way of giving back to God, a token of my gratitude. However, I'm beginning to feel the strains of the day … [Read more...]

Far from the maddening crowd and into the West…
The beautiful SPGG club houseThe March school holidays has just begun and with that, you can imagine most of the kid-friendly attractions in Singapore would be crowded with children and families. Think long snaking queues, and the unexpected hot and hazy weather may just make visits to these supposedly family-friendly places less enjoyable. The Singapore Poly Graduates’ Guildhouse (SPGG) is offering a free one-week trial membership for the public and they are doing it in style: carnival style!Go … [Read more...]
Make it AMAZING with 3M®Scotch Expressions Tapes
I couldn't hide my excitement when I saw the invitation to an afternoon of parent-child crafting to celebrate the launch of 3M®Scotch Expressions Tapes. I've long been an admirer of washi tapes - those small little (read: expensive!) rolls of Japanese masking tapes with 'oh-so-pretty-I-want-them-all' patterns. While friends around me hoard rolls of them and show off crafts after crafts of washified stuff, I held my ground. 'Let's not go there...' I restrained myself, 'it's dangerous'. This … [Read more...]
Hope this clears the Air…navigating the confusing world of Air Purifiers
I’m writing this much earlier than expected – this year, the smog from the hundreds of forest fires burning in nearby Indonesia has shrouded Singapore from the onset of March. Typically, this phenomenon happens in the 3rd quarter of the year when Indonesian farmers slash and burn to clear land to prepare for the planting of fresh crops. This inconsiderate action has drawn ire and condemnation from neighboring South-East Asian countries year after year including Thailand (Yes…that’s how far the … [Read more...]
