I've been tagged by a dear Mommy friend, Justina of Mum in the Making for this Thankfulness Challenge that's been making its round on Facebook: 3 things to be thankful for 5 days, and then tagging 2 other friends each day to do the same. I've been thanking God with Dana nightly when I kiss her goodnight and in private contemplation before I go bed but I guess there are merits in being more intentional in counting our blessings. Today, I thank God for:1. The miracle of … [Read more...]
Guest Post at Yahoo Parenting: Why I play Lego with my Daughter
We were honoured to be invited by Yahoo Parenting to contribute an article last month. Let me reproduce the piece which Dana's Daddy wrote on the benefits of staying indoors sometimes and a few important lessons he glean from a Sunday afternoon spent playing (Lego) with his daughter... First published on Yahoo Parenting on 18 Aug 2014. Read the original article here. I've always enjoyed reading the hubby's … [Read more...]
P1 School Balloting: A nerve-wrecking, ball of an experience
It’s kind of like seeing a ghost - you never quite believe what others go through until it happens to you. So here I am, sitting alone in my car, parked in the compound of what I hope would be my child’s future school. I said a quiet prayer, switched off the car engine, armed the alarm and walked towards the school office - conscious that I would return in less than an hour’s time with a reality that either my wife and I have hoped for or…otherwise. Yes, I am here to … [Read more...]
Parenting with Empathy…Even When It Feels Hard
Baby AJ turned 1 month yesterday. As an adoptive Mom, I'm not entitled to maternity leave* so the husb and I have been trying means and ways to juggle work and caring for the new-born simultaneously from Day 1. My Mil was kind enough to fly from Penang for 10 days to aid in the transition; my Mum comes over in the mornings on most days but from dusk to dawn (the dreaded witching hours and night feeds), we are all on our own. In our sleep-deprived and exhausted state, the patience wears … [Read more...]

Prepping Kids for NYC – 20 Great Reads!
We are 2 sleeps away to our vacation to the Big Apple. This will be the furthest trip we've made as a family. We've limited our travels to the region for the past few years just to save up for this so you can imagine our anticipation. The prep work began months back, right after our air tickets were booked. We loaned books from the National Library to introduce Dana to this amazing city. For titles which are not available from NLB, I purchased them from Amazon (enjoying the … [Read more...]
Guest Post at Canon: Upcycled Jar Lid Photo Magnets
This is a simple but really meaningful craft that you can do with your family. With Fathers' Day round the corner, you can surprise Daddy with these homemade magnets to display in his office or thank your kids' teachers on Teachers' Day. I like the fact that we are recycling jar lids into beautiful magnets, teaching kids the important environmental message of Reuse, Reduce and Recycle! It's also a craft where you can put all your selfie shots to good use and print directly from your … [Read more...]

24 Favourite Audio Books for Kids
We adore audio books and have amassed a sizable collection over the last few years from our favourite online book stores (namely Book Depository and Amazon). Listening to audio books is a great way for young children to internalize the fluency and expression that comes from reading longer stories. It is an excellent way to develop their auditory skill which is neglected in this multi-sensory world we live in. Whenever we played an audio story, it is helpful to have the kids follow along with a … [Read more...]
Asian Spice Kids: Star Anise Superstar!
I use quite a lot of Asian spices in my cooking and Dana enjoyed the holiday camp on Spices at Kids Gallery early this year so when we first discovered this children's book devoted entirely to Asian Spices, I thought it was an ingenious initiative - what a great way to introduce a part of our Asian heritage to the younger ones. Star Anise Superstar is the first title in the bilingual Asian Spice Kids series written by Linn … [Read more...]
