We were toying with the idea of booking a flight to Japan to witness the Cherry blossoms in April. However due to various reasons, the plan didn't materialise. When we received the Press Release that there will be a Cherry blossoms floral display at Gardens By The Bay, I couldn't be happier. My dream of experiencing 'Hanami' under the Sakuras in Japan may not be able to come true (yet) but hey, I am now able to see them in person, right here in Singapore! More than 20 … [Read more...]
Ask a TLL Teacher!
Dana's TLL English Folder, adorned with stickers from her TLL teacher each week! Towards the third quarter of Primary One last year, we realized Dana was under-performing in English. She couldn’t thread together a fluent, engaging piece of composition and was struggling with spelling. Tried as we could, we were not able to translate her voracity for reading into good writing. She was starting to lament that she was lousy (in English). We decided we had to do something to raise her morale … [Read more...]

Samsung Galaxy View – Live, Laugh & Learn Together!
There are a few things I have had to come to terms with as a parent with a school-going children in this connected age. First, the reality that the online world is going to very much a part of our children’s lives (whether we like it or not). Second, before whatever out there gets to them, as parents, I have better ‘get to them’ first. Indeed, there is no escaping the online world. As it is, we work with it, learn from it and live with it daily on a 24/7 basis. Some of us … [Read more...]

Monsters of the Sea, an exhibition focusing predominantly on huge prehistoric marine animals that once ruled the earth has been in-exhibit since Oct 2015. S.E.A. Aquarium – Merry Fishmas: Learn, Wish and Win this Christmas
We had family members visiting from the UK recently and they were keen to visit the S.E.A. Aquarium as they had heard much about it. Dana was eagerly looking forward to hosting her cousin whom she hasn't met in 2 years. Imagine our surprise when we discovered that over and above their usual exhibits, the S.E.A Aquarium has a special Christmas programme, 'Merry Fishmas' (1 Dec to 3 Jan 2016) for the festive season where it leverages on the year end holidays to allow families to … [Read more...]
Gingerbread House Decorating Workshop at Shangri-La – The kind Fairy Tales are made of…
There before my eyes, my daughter’s very own Gingerbread House. Complete with icing snow, snowmen, Santas, gummy bears, jellybeans, M&Ms and a couple of candy trees. It looks like something right out of Hansel and Gratel and would sit proudly on the hotel’s bakery shelf for sale! I’m being totally biased of course but then, given that an hour or two ago, I was seriously skeptical about how the Gingerbread House will turn out seeing how they first started out as slabs of plain brown … [Read more...]
National Gallery Singapore – Keppel Center for Art Education
The test of the morality of a society is what it does for its children.” ~ Dietrich Bonhoeffer One consistent thing about the many great cities we have been to (such as New York, Boston, London and Tokyo) is that despite being prominent economic and political power houses, these cities do not neglect their children. In fact, they devote precious resources to nurture their young particularly in the area of the arts and sciences where their curiosity can be stoked and creativity … [Read more...]

{Giveaway} Junior Explorers: Discovering our Planet!
‘This is way cool!’ ‘Where did you get these cards and learning materials from?’ Instead of the daughter, it was I, the Daddy, who was intrigued about the contents of the latest Junior Explorers ‘Mission Box’ that had just arrived in our mailbox (which I just happened to lay hands on before the daughter did). After I investigated the contents within the Welcome Kit and Mission Envelope, I couldn't wait to embark on the mission with my daughter! We know that the key to effective … [Read more...]
