Multiple Intelligences start with the premise that 'every child is smart'....we just need to help them find out what they are smart in and capitalize on their preferred learning style(s). As an educator, the Multiple Intelligences (MI) Theory (developed by Dr. Howard Gardner, a professor of Education at Harvard University 40 years ago) is not new to me. In fact, I enjoy using Multiple Intelligences strategies in my classrooms to engage my students in learning. In a nutshell, there are at … [Read more...]

What’s a parent to do when your child’s having a fever…
The princess came down with a bout of fever out of the blue on the first Sunday of September. Despite our efforts at sponging and self-medication, her temperature spiked above 40 degrees on two consecutive nights. We became panicky and heeded differing advice offered by well-meaning friends. Being the anxious parents that we are, we started her on a course of antibiotics prematurely which resulted in runny stools for several days after. She's since recovered (Praise God!) but I'll share … [Read more...]

To Teachers with Love…
Dana came home from school last week and excitedly reminded me that we need to get gifts for Teachers' Day. So Mommy decided that this year, we will bless the teachers with something simple but heartfelt. I involved Dana in the preparation of these homemade Double Berries Jams - from dicing the fruits, stirring them continuously to bring to a boil, to placing the finishing touch by sticking the gift tags on. We hope that as the teachers relish the jams (with bread, scones, waffles or … [Read more...]

Last Christmas, hordes of parent holiday shoppers snapped up Furbies as Christmas gifts for their kids to the extent that it was out of stock. Parenting an Only Child…10 Things we never knew…
I came across a testimony by a certain Singaporean Mom who was blessed with not one, but three supernatural conceptions and childbirth on her church's fb page. Even I wait upon the Lord on my unanswered prayers, I turned online in search of tips to parent an only child. The girl is at that precious age of instruction where she is starting to assert her independence and there are days when she exhibits angst and moodiness which we largely attribute to the fact that she is an only … [Read more...]
