Of the many Eric Carle books in Dana’s collection, this is one which we like very much. I had actually forgotten that I bought this title till Daddy fished it out from our bookshelves yesterday evening for Dana’s bedtime story. It comes with an accompanying CD where the story is narrated. This was a bonus for us as Dana got to enjoy the story being read by a native English speaker (instead of Daddy and Mummy) for a change!

The story is simple for toddlers to follow. It begins in the factory where the ducks are made. They are then loaded on a freighter but during stormy weather ten little rubber ducks fall into the ocean and float away. The ducks bob along together for a while, but soon they drift in different directions, each encountering a different animal (such as a dolphin, a seal, a polar bear, and a flamingo). The last little duck is eventually adopted by a real mother duck, floating along with her ducklings. We find the story enjoyable and I’ve taken a liking to Eric Carle’s trademark tissue paper collage drawings!

Here’s a good resource page on how you can build on the story and practise counting with your lil’ ones 🙂 Enjoy!
