Day #9 of the October Playbook Challenge encourages us to go Cloud Spotting – something I wish I had the time to do more often…

I vaguely remembered studying names of clouds in Geography lessons and enjoyed it. Whenever I fly, I love peeping out of the plane windows to admire the clouds. My fav place for cloud watching has got to be in Australia (where the skies are perpetually in mesmerizing shades of blue). For today’s challenge, I introduced Dana to 3 main types of clouds:

Cirrus – thin, long, wispy, strands of white clouds (like feathers). They are the highest clouds in the sky.
Stratus – thick, low-level, gray horizontal clouds that blanket the sky. They usually bring drizzle or rain.
Cumulus – puffy, white, fair-weather clouds (like cotton candies) that we see on sunny days. They are usually low in the sky.

I modified the activity as it was nightfall by the time we came home. We dug into our photo archives and attempted to name the various cloud formations which Daddy has captured from our travels around the world! Some were easier to identify than others. See if you can help us out with those we’re unsure 🙂

Definitely Cirrus…

Stratus or Cumulus?

Whether wispy, fluffy, pure as white or threateningly gray, clouds are so beautiful and evoke a dreamy feel. Dana’s fav is the Cumulus clouds and so are mine. When we were halfway through today’s activity, Dana suddenly remembered she saw some clouds resembling a bear’s paw prints while travelling in Daddy’s car the other day! I missed it and shall make it up by tilting my head to look at the clouds more from tomorrow onwards.
