With perseverance and constant encouragement from Uncle Tony, my daddy and my friends, I made it through the ride! So daddy and daughter, together with some of his friends from Daddy Matters, eagerly set-off on a sunny Sunday to Ubin and came home raving about the experience! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/X18GIbaEOpE?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span>\n<\/div><figcaption>Watch our highlights!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>From David\u2019s account, here\u2019s why this is such an excellent experience for parent and child:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Guided:&nbsp; Trainers are sent to guide both parent and child in some essential cycling skills such as the use of gears, managing slopes (both up and down) as well as some mildly undulating terrain.&nbsp; <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Heritage: This was a complete\nsurprise! Not only did they learn to ride better from the guide, the ride\nbrought them through some distinct places in Pulau Ubin where they learnt about\nthe unique heritage of the place.&nbsp; This\nincludes the German girl shrine, the quarry and the spice garden.&nbsp; There they stopped and the guide was able to\ntell them some unique stories and info about the place.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Safely Calibrated: The experience is catered for parent and child who are competent riders and are looking for outdoor experiences that are not too risky but yet have sufficient challenges to further develop their riding, far from the risk of the busy roads of the mainland.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Precious: Not only did this\ngave daddy and daughter ample opportunities to have fun and bond, they got to\nknow other kids and other parents&nbsp; \/\ndaddies too! In this case, David went there with some of his daddy friends from\nDaddy Matters.&nbsp; It\u2019s really nice to catch\nup over some sun and sweat while our kids too learned a bit more about cycling\nand Ubin together.&nbsp; This was so precious\nan opportunity!<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What\nto prepare for the ride:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>I don\u2019t have a bike \/ I can\u2019t bring my bike there. How? :&nbsp; You need, preferably, a mountain bike with gears for this ride. For a small fee, Biking Singapore offers bike rental for an adult bike and a 16 inch child\u2019s bike, over at Ubin.&nbsp; These are good quality and durable mountain bikes.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Rain, sun and mozzie: This is\nthe great outdoors. Part of the learning experience is to expect these elements\nand be prepared for them, including staying hydrated.&nbsp; So yes, sun block, a simple poncho and mozzie\nrepellent is expected.&nbsp; However if the\nrisk of lighting and storm is high, the ride can be postponed to another time.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>How long is the ride? :&nbsp; The entire experience including the return\nferry ride, is about 3 hours.&nbsp; This\nincludes a few short breaks in Ubin and a short hike. Breakfast and lunch is\nnot included but the daddies bonded over some delicious hawker food at Changi\nVillage thereafter! For our experience, the ride started at about 9am on a\nSunday.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Do we need to wear safety pads? While helmet is compulsory for all rides, the use of knee and shoulder pads are at individual\u2019s own discretion.&nbsp; For our ride, we did not wear but David brought along a simple First-aid kit just in case.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>How long is the boat ride and\nwill it cause seasickness? The bum boat (yup, part of the experience!) ride to\nUbin is about 10 minutes.&nbsp; The kids and\nadults were too excited to feel any sea-sickness. Besides, it\u2019s over before you\nknow it! But for those who may experience, seasickness, do take the necessary\nnon-drowsy precaution if you like.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>What does the fee include?&nbsp; An experienced trainer from Biking Singapore is\nassigned for every 2 to 3 pairs of daddy and child cyclist. This is to keep the\nratio small in order for proper and safe riding. The fee also includes the\nreturn boat ride and a short drinks break. Rental of bikes are available for a\nsmall fee.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Other tips: <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Storage and valuables: There\nare no storage facilities at Changi ferry terminal nor at Ubin.&nbsp; Riders are advised to bring only the\nessentials and ride light with a simple backpack.&nbsp; Bring only the essential valuables.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Parking: Parking around Changi\nVillage can get quite busy on weekends.&nbsp;\nWhile there are ample URA parking, do come early.&nbsp; Other alternative parking includes the hotel\nnearby as well as the Civil Service Club.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Metal detector:&nbsp; As part of the security measure, do be\nprepared to go thru a simple metal detector scan upon returning from Ubin.
