Good food is aplenty in Bangkok. When we were planning for our short getaway, our cousin has highly recommended the Thai Afternoon Tea at the Erawan Tea Room. Despite the shortage of time, we decided to carve out an afternoon to see what the hype is about.

Facade of the Restaurant

The Erawan Tea Room is a cosy and relaxing respite away from the hubub of the human traffic at the Erawan shrine outside. It is a lovely place to stop for tea on a busy, blistering Bangkok day. We have heard rave reviews of this restaurant and made it one of our ‘Must-Try’ on our recent Bangkok Trip.

Love the fresh flower arrangement and the ceramic pottery on display

When we turned up without a reservation on a weekday and were given a table after 30mins wait (that was how popular it is). The restaurant is decorated in elegant, old grandeur style with dark rich mahogany Victorian blinds creating an oasis from the maddening traffic outside. There are ample wooden tables and comfortable burgundy settees. The ambiance and lighting create an extremely relaxed ambiance. Service is efficient and pleasant. Food is refined and yet easy on the wallet.

Selection of Fine Teas

We ordered the Thai Afternoon Tea Set at an affordable 280THB nett per person. As part of the set, Daddy and I each can pick our choice of tea from the menu. Daddy opted for a glass of Thai Iced Milk Tea while I picked a fragrant Thai Pandan Tea. They were simply indescribably delicious!

The best Thai Iced-Milk Tea in BKK!

Unlike the usual classic high teas which has sandwiches, cakes, quiches, pies and macarons. The afternoon tea at Erawan Tea Room offers local snacks and sweets as part of its afternoon tea menu.

True Thai-style Mango Sticky Rice!

We were extremely delighted that it came with the “Khao Niew Mamuang” – Mango with Sticky Rice too! It is our family’s favourite Thai dessert. The mango was very sweet and firm, the rice moist, sticky and well-infused with the coconut milk. The addition fried rice grains gave it a crunch that made it irresistible!

Our first Thai Afternoon Hi-Tea!

We spent an unhurried and delightful afternoon here, away from the maddening crowd to rest our aching feet (from all the shopping!) and to indulge our taste buds. We relished the unique spread of Thai sweet and savory delicacies – all exquisitely handmade and some of which were totally new to us. What a perfect way to spend the afternoon relaxing, enjoying your family’s company over good food while on holiday!
