We were completely swept off our feet then. Her petitness amplified the vulnerability of Matilda, juxtaposing against the towering Trunchbull and her domineering, dismissive&nbsp;parents . It was surreal to see a standing ovation right at the end as this little girl took to the stage during curtain call. Bravo. Bravo. In many ways the music brought the story to life and transported the audience effortlessly into the world of Roald Dahl. Would it be suitable for parents and adults too? <\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>With an incredibly talented cast of young performers, Matilda is set to inspire and delight audiences young and old. The musical is perfect for all in the family.&nbsp; Everyone can identify with the times in their childhood where they wish they could overcome their vulnerability with faith, love and hope, perhaps even with a dash of magic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Is it suitable for very young children (e.g. preschoolers)?<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We brought our 4 year old along and he stayed engaged throughout.&nbsp; The pacing of the musical together with the energetic songs and dances kept him glued to the seat. However there were scenes where strobes and sudden loud accents in the music startled him.&nbsp; To fully appreciate the musical, it would be good if the child is at least of primary school-going age.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Must I read the book first to enjoy the Musical?<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>No. The musical adaptation is concise enough for everyone to enjoy regardless if you\u2019re a Roald Dahl fan (like my 11 year old) or otherwise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>What is the duration of the Musical?<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Evening shows start promptly from 7:30 pm and lasts till nearly 10:30 pm with a short 15 minute interval. If you&#8217;re bringing kids, make sure they use the conveniences early before the show begins. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Any other advice for parents bringing their children?<\/strong><\/li><li><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Set the Context: Given the dramatised circumstances that Matilda and her friends experience in the musical, parents who bring young children may have to explain that some of the words used and pranks played (e.g. Mixing her father&#8217;s hair lotion (Song: &#8216;Naughty&#8217;) and the occasional calling of names etc.)  while not vulgar, may not be appropriate in real life. Let them know this is a fictional story.
