We attended NTUC UFamily’s MegaDance on a Saturday night, 24 Nov 2012 at the The Coliseum™, Hard Rock® Hotel Singapore.

Our very own hip-hop dancer-wannabe!

Dana and Daddy love dancing and the duo has been eagerly looking forward to the MegaDance event by practising the Gangnam Style at home. However, due to heavy traffic on the AYE, we arrived late at half past 7, only to miss the opening dance. This did not dampen our spirits. We saw many parents and children humming along to the catchy K-pop and Hip Hop tunes spun by the DJ. It was fun to see families (young and old) boogieing and having wholesome fun on the dance floor.

The kids were the most enthusiastic in learning the dance steps led by the Professional Instructors during the mass dance coaching segment. Daddy and I attempted to pick up some moves but got lost mid way as they were a tad too advanced for amateurs. Nonetheless, we stayed on to cheer for the families who participated in the ‘Best Family Dance’ competition and the finale where the crowd danced to Gangnam Style again (Yeah!) and other familiar pop tunes which we danced to at Club Med! We enjoyed the finale a fair bit.

Despite the loud, thumping music and the sweltering heat (we were caught by surprised that the venue was non-airconditioned!), we thought that it was a good family outing, having achieving its objective of plucking Daddy and I away from our hectic work and devoting the Saturday night to do something out-of-the-ordinary with our girl. It was a bonus to see her being so immersed in the dance. Most children are kinesthetic by nature and dancing with them is a healthy way to nurture their spontaneity and self-confidence.

NTUC UFamily organises family bonding events throughout the year to provide opportunities for families to come together, enjoy each other’s company and build lasting memories. We attended the UFamily Picnic in October and there’s a fun, sporty event for the whole family coming up soon!
