In fact my 10 year old daughter\u2019s knowledge of the plot far eclipses mine.<\/p>\n<p>Despite that, I enjoyed <a href=\"http:\/\/www.srt.com.sg\/show\/juliuscaesar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Shakespeare in the Park: Julius Caesar<\/strong><\/a> thoroughly!&nbsp;Here are 5 reasons we think you should catch it. Missing it would be akin to \u2018<em>murder most foul<\/em>.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/m7b-iKGbIQc?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>1. The Acting<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Granted that the plot of the play involves murder, I was expecting quite a bit of overacting but I was pleasantly surprised that the actors were very sensitive to the plot that this was a delicate situation where a country\u2019s future was held in the balance of either a \u2018tyrant\u2019 or a political party.<\/p>\n<p>Most notable were actors who carried the following roles: Marc Anthony,&nbsp;Cassius, Brutus, Julius Caesar. Their acting kept us peeled to the stage. They were convincing, commanding and superb. Though delivered in Shakespeare\u2019s original old English, my 10 year old and I found it easy to follow and understand.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-43274\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.lifestinymiracles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Julius-Caesar08.jpg?resize=692%2C505&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"692\" height=\"505\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.lifestinymiracles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Julius-Caesar08.jpg?w=800&amp;ssl=1 800w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.lifestinymiracles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Julius-Caesar08.jpg?resize=300%2C219&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.lifestinymiracles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Julius-Caesar08.jpg?resize=768%2C561&amp;ssl=1 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 692px) 100vw, 692px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>2. The Directing<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The play was well-paced. It helped that the adaptation was set in \u2018modern times\u2019 where media plays a big role in propaganda. With the use of social media and contemporary setting,&nbsp; it helped audience members to instantly identify with the context of the play. The incorporation of the projection of the audience as well as the inclusion of some audience members as the &#8216;media&#8217; team narrowed the gap between actors and audience further.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-43268\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.lifestinymiracles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Julius-Caesar01.jpg?resize=600%2C400&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.lifestinymiracles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Julius-Caesar01.jpg?w=600&amp;ssl=1 600w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.lifestinymiracles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Julius-Caesar01.jpg?resize=300%2C200&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>3. The Stage Set<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Creating the stage in an open park is no mean feat. In fact, one reason we enjoy open-air plays is the chance to experience a play in a customized stage as opposed to the normal \u2018rectangle box\u2019. This play is a good example of that.<\/p>\n<p>Designed with reference to the austere and solemn-looking government building (i.e. the United Nations), the round stage has some special effects up its sleeves, including elevated levels that allow the cast to maximize their acting prowess. I won&#8217;t reveal other hidden surprises or I&#8217;ll risk spoiler alert. Go early and you&#8217;re able to walk onto the stage and see the world of Julius Caesar \u2018come alive\u2019 right in front of you. The Lighting and Music<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This season\u2019s&nbsp; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.srt.com.sg\/show\/juliuscaesar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Shakespeare in the Park: Julius Caesar<\/strong><\/a> is performed with original music compositions. They were very effective in enhancing the mood. Played right on cue, there\u2019s nothing like music to stir one\u2019s emotions.&nbsp; Throughout the evening, I forgot that&nbsp;this was performed open-air: the lighting made us feel as if we were in proper indoor performance venue. This is testament to the details SRT puts in to give their audience that premium theatrical experience whether indoor or out. The Relevance<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Tyrant or benevolent leader? Love for country or thirst for power? The story of Julius Caesar is timeless and so relatable. Even more so in this day and age where there\u2019s so much political turmoils and uncertainty among the super powers.&nbsp; Perhaps it is this relevance coupled with the fine acting that make <a href=\"http:\/\/www.srt.com.sg\/show\/juliuscaesar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Shakespeare in the Park: Julius Caesar<\/strong><\/a> a real treat. This pertains largely to the parts where there are stabbings plus the fact that it is in Shakespeare\u2019s original text (read: Olden English). However, if your child is at least 9 years and up, and well-acquainted with Shakespeare\u2019s works, it would be an excellent opportunity to bring them to enjoy this quality performance LIVE and deepen your child&#8217;s love for literature and theatre.
