As a Dad, nothing brings me greater satisfaction than to spend quality family time with my precious wife and daughter. My 12-hr work schedule sees me setting off for work daily before sunrise and rarely allows me to step home before the sun down. Last Friday, when the opportunity presents itself, I packed up for home earlier (about 6pm), scooped the wife and daughter up and sped them to our favourite neighbourhood park.

It was spontaneous, impromptu, a total surprise for the girls but we ended up having loads of fun. The park was all ours to enjoy, the air was breezy and there we lingered, wriggling our toes in the sandy pits, kicking back our worries, slowing down our pace to write another page of happy moments into our family’s memory bank.

The daughter was visibly thrilled to visit the park again…And me? I willed myself to climb the biggest pyramid with my inteprid 4 year old, knowing full well that while I am still fit, possess the agility and stamina to do crazy stuff with her; and while she still desires my company, I should capitalise on these moments to bond with her. In my dictionary, outdoor play definitely ranks highly as one of the best places for Daddy Daughter bonding sessions. An hour at the park beats ten (or hundred) at the mall!

We ended the evening by enjoying a homely Peranakan meal at Daisy’s Dream Kitchen (just 5mins’ drive from West Coast Park). It’s a cosy little family restaurant set up by the talented local actress, Selena Tan’s Mom. We love its Beef Rendang and homemade Ngoh Hiang. It’s a good alternative for families who do not fancy having Macdonald’s for dinner. Check out their Facebook page for opening hours and location.
