In a land not so far away, beloved movie characters come to life and we can make merry with abandon, like a child all over again. Last week, I took advantage of the PSLE marking days, made a pact with my Sis to bring the kids to one of our favourite theme park – Universal Studios Singapore. Daddy had to sit out on this much-anticipated excursion as he came down with an unexpected bout of hfmd (sigh)… Not wanting to disappoint the kids, we went ahead with our plans and I took on the challenge to put my (rusty) photography skills to the test.

We had visited Universal Studios previously so this time, we specifically wanted to try something new – their Sesame Street Character Breakfast! Patrons who purchase the breakfast experience get to enter the park earlier at 9am (instead of 10am) and enjoy a hearty breakfast till 11am. What makes the experience worthwhile is the opportunity to meet and greet Sesame Street Characters in the comfort of your breakfast tables – minus the queue!

Midway into our breakfast, the Sesame Street Characters started making their rounds in the restaurant. Kids became distracted as they crowded round for a photo with their favourite Sesame St. Characters.

After breakfast, the sky gave way to a heavy downpour and we sought shelter at the latest attraction of Universal Studios Singapore – The Spaghetti Space Chase. It’s a low impact, very easy ride suitable even for infants or the elderly…It didn’t impress me but the kids like it and asked to go on it twice.

The rain has reduced to a light drizzle so we made our way to the next indoor ride – The Transformers! I really enjoyed this 3D ride in the Evac vehicle but Dana was almost in tears as the images of the Autobots attempting to protect the AllSpark from the Decepticons were a tad too violent and realistic for her liking.

Thankfully, the weather cleared and we walked to the Far, Far Away Land to try some other rides. My brave little Princess (who earlier was scared by the Transformers battle) is a budding adrenlin junkie who took the Enchanted Airways roller-coaster ride not once, but three times!

As for me, I’d pick the Canopy Flyer anytime. This amazing ride takes us zipping past the canopies as though we are flying! If there’s one ride that keeps me coming back to USS, this is it. As it was a weekend when we visited, the queue at the Canopy Flyer takes 90 minutes. Thankfully, we have the Universal Express Pass which enabled us to skip the snaking queue but it is valid once per ride, so even though I very much wanted to ride it again, it meant we have to join the rest of the crowd in the regular queue.

What a liberating feeling!

We utilized our Universal Express Pass to try few other rides next before the kids (and us) tire out from the adrenalin rush and humidity. If you are planning to visit Universal Studios on Public Holidays, School Holidays or on a weekend (like we did), the Express Pass can be a real time (and life) saver and worth splurging on!

Apart from the rides, a big bonus at the Universal Studios Singapore is that there are ample food / drinks kiosks and shopping stops to cater to the whole family so even if you had brought along grandparents (or uncles and aunties), there will be something for everyone.

Each with a unique theme to match the rides…

What’s a day out at the Theme Park without Churros?

We took the Jurassic Park Rapids Adventure (River Rafting) ride before calling it a day. To the kids, getting wet is so much fun. We had to deposit our belongings (camera included) in the locker so there aren’t any photos to show but i was surprised it was a fun and mild ride – great for the family!

We love Universal Studios!

We had originally planned to spend half a day at the park but ended up being there from opening to closing. It was rewarding to see everyone’s tired but happy faces and I appreciated the chance to bond with my sister (a rare outing with just us and the kids sans hubbies)! If you’re looking for a wonderful post exam activity to reward the family, look no further – bring them to ride the movies at Universal Studios Singapore!

Thank you for the magical day, USS…

and thank you for your company Caleb and Aunty Adeline!
