The Princess Dana Diaries Guide to having a Fun-filled, Sun-soaked, Worry-free Day at the Legoland Water Park! For a comprehensive guide to all the rides in LEGOLAND Water Park Malaysia, check out Part 1 of our review here.

The largest Legoland Water Park in the World is only a stone’s throw away!

Follow our tips to have a Sun-Soaked , Fun-Filled and Worry-Free Day!

One thing that’s different about going to a Water Park vs an amusement Theme Park is that at a Water Park, you’re virtually either half-naked (or close to it) but certainly very very drenched. Whatever it is, you cannot lug your belongings with you and the wet and half-naked feeling is bound to make you feel exposed (pun intended) and insecure.

Not to worry, being a Water Park of international standards, Legoland Water Park offers some impressive state-of-the-art security systems to keep your belongings safe so that the only thing you need to worry is how to beat the queues and enjoy those thrilling rides!

When entering the Water Park, one of the first things you’ll see is the locker and changing rooms. The same venue houses the shower and toilets (there are also smaller toilets around the park). Here, lockers are available in two sizes , Normal and Large, with the former costing RM20 and the larger one RM 30 for one day’s rental.

Clean and colourful changing rooms. Shampoo/body wash are provided.

During our visit, we managed to squeeze most of our ‘dry’ belongings e.g. shoes, sandals, change of clothes and our passports, into the normal sized lockers while bringing along drinking water, towels and light snacks along with us. The lockers are activated by strategically placed consoles. Using a state-of-the-art biometric system which remembers guests’ fingerprints, it allows you to access the lockers multiple times during the day. The consoles also allow the conventional use of passwords to gain access. I personally prefer the high-tech fingerprints access system but it also means whenever anyone from my entourage (i.e. my wife) needed to retrieve something from the locker, out I come from whichever queue I’m in to go to the lockers. So, if there’s a chance you’re sharing the lockers with your friends, using passwords will just allow anyone to do that conveniently. There are attendants around to help with the consoles. However, do note that these lockers and changing rooms are located near the park entrance so should you need to get our belongings during your stay there, be prepared to walk some distance, either full or partially drenched, to the lockers.

The Water Park has also made available Private Cabanas for rental should you want some private space to take a breather or siesta in between rides. These cabanas come with your own safe, a ceiling fan, a mini-fridge stocked with 10 bottles of cold beverages and some private deck chairs for resting. For privacy, you can draw the surrounding curtains. These private cabanas are strategically stationed near the rides and come at a rental price of RM 300 per day. Staff members are stationed at the cabana areas to offer assistance. On our visit, we saw families with infants or elderly guests using the cabanas to rest and escape the afternoon heat.

After all that climbing, splashing and tumbling, you are bound to feel hungry. The Water Park has only two cafes which offer largely the same fare (think finger food like burgers, fries, nuggets and nasi lemak etc.). The larger eatery is the ‘Beach and Brick Grill‘ which is located next to the Lego Wave Pool while the significantly smaller cafe ‘Brick Bay Cafe‘ is next to the Joker Soaker. When we were there, there were snaking queues at both eateries resulting in long wait under the sun. There were also insufficient sit-down dining space for patrons. These dining shacks are non-air conditioned and the layout seem to indicate that they were somehow built as an afterthought. However, once we sink our teeth into their delicious Nasi Lemak, our grouses were soothed away! It would be good if the Legoland management look into providing more F&B options and dining areas in the Water Park.

These save the day – Nasi Lemak and Fish Fingers…but be prepared to wait.

No amusement park would be complete without the souvenir shops. Here, it is located right next to the locker and changing rooms near the park’s entrance. It’s a cosy little shop and can get quite crowded especially when the park users try to seek some shelter from the heat (and rain). Nevertheless, it offers a good range of souvenirs, many of which are exclusive to the Water Park.

For safety, there are lifeguards stationed almost everywhere and the crew manning each ride were quite mindful of safety restrictions and regulations. My only issue with that is that not all rides have the same restrictions – there were those that didn’t allow watches but most did. There were those that didn’t allow loose T-shirts while others did. Dana was turned away at some rides just before it was our turn as she wore a swimming suit with exposed back zipper. I’m sure it would have been spelt out on the notice boards leading to the rides but when you’re drenched, the last thing anyone would do is to stand under the hot sun, without footwear, squint and try to read the regulations and restrictions. Perhaps installing larger, clearer pictorial signages at more strategic paths leading to the rides may help.

Life vests, Life Guards… and Life-sized Lego bricks!

The Body Dryer (left). Maps are available at most places around the park.

Another safety aspect they can improve on would be to install a lightning warning and announcement system of sorts (which the Adventure Cove Waterpark at Resort World Sentosa has). Considering that it is near the lighting capital of the world – Singapore….the greatest threat to patrons’ safety would be lightning. During our visit, we saw attendants frantically trying to get patrons out of their rides when they saw impending storm clouds. Many of the park users (us included) were at first clueless what was happening until we approached a staff member on duty.

All in, the amenities and facilities are sufficient to let you and your family have a sun-soaked, fun-filled and worry-free day at Legoland Water Park. Look out for free brick building workshops in one of the cabanas and also for the crew member to exchange your collector Lego badges!

10 Logistical Survival Tips:

1) Pack your own snacks and drinks to last the day – food in theme parks are not exactly cheap.2) Rent a locker – choose a size that meets your needs. I suggest use a password and share with your spouse or a close family member so that they can go on their own to retrieve their belongings when you’re halfway sliding down a tube.
3) If you’re bringing a stroller, load it with towels, plenty of drinking water and a spare change of clothes if necessary. I suggest you lock your passports in the hotel safe, if not at least lock them in the rented locker.
4) Push stroller to the deck chairs and park it near the wave pool…then go and have fun! Make sure you don’t leave any valuables in your stroller.
5) There are shoe racks and life vests provided at convenient locations around the Water Park for your use.
6) You may wish to start queuing for lunch before peak meal periods.
7) Slap on sun-screen lotion generously, you don’t want to nurse a sun-burnt body the next day.
8) Getaway from the afternoon heat by browsing for souvenirs at the air-conditioned souvenir shop.
9) Visit on a Sunday now that the State of Johor has decided to declare its weekend as Friday and Saturday (commencing 1st Jan 2014).
10) Book a room at the brand new Legoland Hotel right next to the Water Park so you can walk right back to your hotel room after a fun-filled, sun-soaked day.
