Kick back and just ‘wonder’…

We visited the Port of Lost Wonder (POLW) during Christmas. It was our 3rd visit to POLW and between our visits, we’ve also been to Legoland Waterpark and the Adventure Cove Waterpark@RWS Sentosa. With so many Waterparks to choose from (all within a stone’s throw from Singapore), what sets one apart from the others?

Festive mood in the air!

Ally & Tabby with Dana…

Fun and laughter all around!

For a start, POLW is smaller in scale but it means that it provides for a more intimate and better-managed, safer environment. Parents with kids running about would greatly appreciate the ability to keep an eye on their kids without having to be on their tails every minute. POLW has also cleverly taken advantage of their size through clever space planning. While sheltered cabanas are provided around the main Pirate Ship feature, they’ve effectively carved some space to house more cabanas for additional non-waterplay activities which are included in the admission price (something the other rival waterparks lack) to engage the kids. There’s also sufficient greenery for a few beach mattresses and a large, clean sandpit to cater to families with younger kids (what is a water play without some sand in the feet eh?). During the June school holidays, we’ve enjoyed a BBQ and movie under the stars while laying on the beach mattresses.

Ahoy yo mateys!

It’s always WONDER-ful to play at POLW!

One of her fav attractions – the foam pool!

Perhaps the greatest draw for POLW would be their fun programmes and their people. During festive periods, the Wonder Crew would constantly come up with exciting programmes to add novelty to the visits. For Christmas, kids participated in Gingerbread Cookie Baking, Card Decorating, Cocktail Mixing, Candle Making and other fun activities. These ‘indoor’ activities are guided, available throughout the day and allow kids (and parents) to take respite from the harsh noon sun or the torrential downpour this time of the year.

Sending a letter to Santa…

Mixing her own ‘cocktail’ for the first time!

A toast to Christmas and the New Year!

Bottoms up!

What’s Christmas without a Gingerbread cookie…

Tiny hands at work…

Another draw for us is their people. We were pleasantly surprised by the service quality of the Wonder Crew even though they had to stay in the non-air conditioned cabanas to entertain batch after batch of boisterous kids whole day long in the humid weather! They are warm, approachable and very patient with the kids. This human touch made POLW so much more family friendly compared to its competitors.

A gift from Santa…

The cheerful Wonder Crew!

Met this friendly crew, Michelle who hails all the way from U.S.A!

In light of competition from larger waterparks, the smaller but more intimate POLW offers plenty of opportunities for parents to connect, bond and interact with their kids. While we were there, we noticed many fathers taking time out to share tender moments with their kids, truly heartwarming!

Father and child at the waterplay…

At the sandpit…

At the pool…

At the craft tables…

Another note-worthy point about POLW is its restaurant. We all know that food at most theme parks are over-priced junk. Not so at Port Belly. We ordered a family combo comprising of a large sized thin-crusted pizza, plus a yummy platter of buffalo wings, fish fingers, chicken nuggets, chips and a jug of fizzy drinks which feeds 5 adults sufficiently for less than SGD50. The kids’ meals are also priced reasonably at SGD8.90 each (with mains, appetizers and a drink). That’s a bonus if you ask me.

Love the pun on the name – Port Belly

Kudos to POLW for constantly re-inventing and holding their own. If you’re not yet a fan of POLW’s Facebook Page, like them today to get the latest updates on their exciting programmes. We’ll be back for more wet and WONDER-ful day out at POLW!
