Reaching over 70,000 children and their families in 2013 with excellent productions like The Three Little Pigs, Goldilocks and The Frog Prince, Singapore Repertory Theatre‘s The Little Company has established a reputation for staging quality plays based on well-loved classics for young audiences.

This year, The Little Company (TLC) opens its 2014 season with a witty retelling of ‘Rapunzel’ – Disney’s 10th and newest princess. Loosely based on the German fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm, the creative team has created a fun and entertaining new remake with music specially written for 2-6 year olds.

The first time we brought Dana to a movie theater was to watch Disney’s ‘Tangled’ way back in 2010. Being barely 3 years old, Dana was afraid of the wicked witch and clung to me for dear life. I on the other hand, was enchanted with the stunning animation and beautiful soundtracks especially this piece, ‘I see the light’.

Rapunzel in Tangled…

When we heard that TLC is going to stage Rapunzel as musical play with a twist, we knew we had to watch it. It brings kids on Rapunzel’s journey of self-discovery, helped by her zany friends (Montague the Prince, his sidekick, Chester the Camel, Hugo the Cactus and Harriet the Bird). Along the way, even the evil Esme the Witch, the one who imprisoned Rapunzel in a lonely tower, also learns a lesson or two about friendship and love. Friends who have watched it raved that we can expect fun adventures, lots of singing, talking animals and a few surprises thrown in. We can’t wait for our turn to watch this witty production! Don’t miss this heart-warming musical tale that will delight families.
